ITH Easter Egg zipped purse
You will need three pieces of fabric, approx 8cm x 14cm, 25cm x 14cm and 20cm x 14cm plus two small pieces for the stripes. Depending on the fabric you choose, you may want to use an interlining or wadding. Choose your own thread colours to suit your fabric. Most of the colour changes are just to make the machine stop!
Hoop stabiliser and stitch colour 1 which is an outline and marks the placement for the zip.
Lay the fastened zip along the central line so that the teeth are on the line, the open end to the left you and all metal parts beyond the edges of the outline. (That is vital - you will need a zip longer than you think!)
Colour 2 will stitch the zip to the stabiliser.
Lay the 8 x 14 cm piece of fabric, face down over the zip and the long edge along the top of the hoop. Colour 3 will stitch it to the zip. Flip the lower part of the fabric up to reveal the zip.
Repeat this process with the largest piece of fabric and colour 4.
Lay a piece of contrast fabric over the lower part of the egg and another across the centre to form the stripes.
Colours 5 will stitch them down.
Trim away excess fabric.
Colour 6 and 7 are satin stitch to complete the applique.
Un-zip the zip halfway at this stage or you will be stuck later!
Finally put the loop in position and place third piece of fabric face down over the whole thing and stitch the final outline Cut out about 5mm away from the edge, remove the stabiliser from over the zip and turn through.
