can't say I noticed - but the responses to this one are very informative about sailing
stitch out the ships then when doing the flags, turn your embroidery machine around to face the other direction. That should fix it. Oh, love your cat, is it a burman?
Flags are quite often depicted as flying behind the vessel and that is only possible when you are motoring. Even 17th and 18th century oil paintings have their flags wrong. Sailing into the wind is not possible, the angle between the apparent wind (that is the wind direction corrected for the headwind created by the ship's speed) and ship is often at least 40 degrees. A square rigged ship like the ones in the embroideries has to make an even greater angle. So you are right the flags ARE flying in the wrong direction. But it's still a nice design. Flower for you.
Thanks for the info . I don't know anything about sailing but sounds like beeboomer does. I learn so much here. A flower for you.
Lots of responses from this one. I'm just happy to get the freebie!! *4U
The flags may actually not be wrong. You can not sail directly into the wind, but you can zigzag into the direction of the wind, and the boat will create its own force on the flag by its forward motion. (Think of a horse's mane flying backwards as he runs.)
Neat little drawing and brief explanation here:

Did not notice. The design is no beutiful that tha's the last thing I will probably pay attention to.
No haven't noticed the flags but I did notice you change your pic.... I like the big dog laying with the big cat. :-)
They are Lady (Cocker Spaniel) & Mishka (Himalayan) in front, both 8y.o. & my 14 y.o. Tidge (Burmese cross) in back. I have one other named Spanky, (Russian Blue) who is a 2y.o. rescue cat but sadly i have to keep them separate as he is too vicious. They are my "kids" and I love them with all my heart. hugs n roses, M
OOH i love schnauzers, i was going to get one, then my 2nd DH died & i took his little girl Lady when none of his daughters wanted her. I am an animal "fan"atic & these 3 even sleep in our bedroom, 2 in our bed, Lady in her own bed on the floor beside me as close as she can get. hugs, M
Yes meganne & I'm sure 1 other has the same problem. Most Children woul not notice this.
If you have a computer program, you could flip it the other way.
Yes I thought that too but, truth be told, I never download ones that aren't of interest to anyone I could make them for. So even though I voted for it, it was not because i wanted it, but to help someone else who did. I just love voting the freebies for everyone else, makes me feel helpful.

I would have never known. I don't know anything about sailing. My sweetie has an airplane so we watch the wind sock.
May be true - but, it is still a lovely stitch out, and it is given to us as a gift. ("Don't look a gift horse in the mouth.") Old Texas saying. *4U Sue

You know Meg, I'm not sure... the design isn't too clear. Guess I'd need to stitch it out. :-) Have a blessed morning (or where you're at, evening) friend.
Thnx Teri, I was in bed for two days with a doozy of a migraine so today is now wash and iron day. so i'd best get to it. Give Esther a big hug from me. hugs n roses, M
