I would like to make my own patches for Ben's new service dog. They should be sturdy, with an applique look, with a satin stitch around the border. I know I can digitize them, but what tips can you all give me so I don't mess them up? What do I use? I plan to hand stitch them on this high tech harness we have ordered. I need to make two for the forward spaces, and then something that says In training somewhere that is visible I can take off when she passes (hopefully not too long- LOL) Thanks for advice! Jan

Sail Cloth ???
I'm quite sure it comes in lots of bright colours and it is not so stiff. Sewing machine sews through easily.
Good Luck and happy stitching.

Great question!! I've wondered this myself. I'm hoping that life settles down some soon so that I can get back to playing with my machine!!!!!
Good luck with your patch. Let us see it when you get finished. :)

Here are some sources for badge making. I did use a duck type fabric that was firm. They turn out perfect using the embroidery machine so I know they will look nice on the harness.

I had no idea there was so much info out there on making patches. Thank you for posting. I'm saving this, because I'm sure it will be helpful!!!

My girlfriend has a guide dog and she has two patches one for each side of the harness. I used a wide easy to remove zig-zag stitch to put them on for her.

I think I'll have to hand stitch them on as there is too much padding. What are the patches made of, do you think? Canvas kind of stuff??? Thanks

I thought I'd put a circular patch up on the front, and then an In Training in the back. Isn't this a neat harness? It even has a handle for Ben. She's a black lab so this should look really nice on her. I saw a nice lime green collar I loved, but would that be too much color? You know we do have to be stylish along with functional. LOL

Hi Jan, I just looked though and could not find one to suit my needs. I think the mug rugs in DBC are the best match for me and maybe for you also! When I find them again, I will send the link.

Hey Jan, I bought the Patch Shapes @ Emblibrary and made patches for our Children's church group to put on sashes. I used tear away with stitchwitchery under that so they could be ironed onto the sashes. There might be a better way of doing them. Maybe we'll get some more ideas. fivestarfonts.com has a few free designs that would work for patches. Good luck! Jane

Jan, I forgot to say that we used photo fabric that had a design copied from computer. It was cut to the size & shape of patch or badge, then after the first color stitched out on stablizer,I would lay the fabric down onto the stablizer then it was stitched down with a zigzag then a satin stitch. I hope you can understand this. Please post pic when finished & happy stitching!!!

Dear Jan, I know if I could I would, but I don't so I can't!

Make sense, doesn't it? I'm sure one of our marvellous digitisers will be along shortly to help you.

Have you seen all the quilts from Di Williams for your Ugandan Project yet? Love Chris
