Hi Cuties, I suffered from the same problem and found out that tension manipulation made the problem worse.
So I tried out different threads for the bobbin (special bobbin thread was too thin and showed, sewing thread was to thick and made the designs too dense). Now I use a thread meant for overlock/serger machines and this works fine, no tension adjustments necessary.
I am going to add my cents worth. I have found that certain (top) threads also cause bobbin thread to come to the top, especially if they are cheaper ones. Before I changed to pre wound bobbins I used to have big trouble embroidering fonts, especially if they were in darker colours. At first I wound the bobbin in thread to match. Since a friend put me on to pre wound I have never had any problems. I still use black in my bobbin when stitching outlines. Sarah.
Thanks all. I have never touched or changed the tension since I got machine. I did read my manual and there is a setting on the computer to adjust the tension. I have not had time to try again yet.
I agree with sewdoctor. I've had this happen when the bobbin thread has come out of the tension guide. When I put the bobbin in now I find myself giving the thread a bit of a tug to make sure it's seated correctly. Good luck
I agree it is your tension, but before you change your top tension, make sure the bobbin is seated correctly and the bobbin thread is in the slot,,that is your bobbin tension. If the thread comes out, of course will have no tension.
When thread are showing on top, it is usually the bobbin tension, if the loops are on the bottom, it is the top thread tension.
Well you got the answer is is the tension. Hope you can solve the problem soon.
You got great answers here. Perfect tension is the goal of every seamstress and ME artist. live laugh download stitch!
I have a Brother, and in its guideline book they metion to change the tension. Which I did and problem solved. Check you book.
The dial that you set to 3 is probably your top threaad tension.
First try lowering your top thread tension and test stitch to see if that stops the bobbin thread from coming up to the top of the design.
This is the easiest adjustment to try to solve the problem.
If that doesn't help you can always change it back to 3.
Make sure to clean the bobbin area and make sure your bobbin thread is clicked into the bobbin tension on the bobbin case when threading the bobbin thread.

When this happens to me I rethread the upper thread. I read some where a few years ago, if the bobbin thread is showing, rethread the upper thread. If the upper thread is acting up take bobbin out in redo. Bobbin could be poorly wound. This has worked very well for me. I have a Brother PE-700 Machine. I hope this helps you. :)
I have never moved the tension. My lighting wasn't the best so I did the whole thing. Thanks for your responses. I don't know where the bottom tension is. I have a babylock ellure plus there is a dial at the top, I have it set to 3.
Or your top tension is too high.
You could try lowering the top thread tension just abit and then test to see if that improves the stitchout.
