I'm so glad you asked this question. You are not alone!!!!
I sewn many zips into projected but not with the embroidery machine.
All of the answers to your message have helped me immensely to have the courage to give it a go.
So, thank you for asking and thank you to everyone else for being so positive and helpful.

Do not be afraid. I was very hesitant when I tried my first one. I printed the instructions out and followed them to the letter. When you have done one, you will be an expert! I still use a zip miles longer than I need to be on the safe side.

I feared it also and even closed my eyes and kringed when began to sew over the teeth. But to my amazment I am happy to say it stitched out beautiful. I don't worry any more. Make sure it is a nylon zipper though and not metal and not the big toothed nylon zippers either. You'll do great. Hugs & Stitches, Liz

Yes, that was one of my fears. I did find out one thing I have been doing wrong with my zipper projects is I have not been using the right length zipper for my projects. just realized it a few hours ago. Thanks to the ladies earlier today I took some advice and order nylon zippers from Esty's Zipit. Great prices; Thank you. I will not fear zippers!

You must give it a try. You will be so amazed. Just don't use a metal zipper and make sure the zipper pull is outside the stitching line. It is so easy. I promise. Susan

I felt just like you, but after doing my first project with a zipper ITH it was a blast. No metal zippers and just keep the pull part out of the way and follow directions and should be fine.

Give it a try, I know you will be happy with the results. Make sure your zipper is long enough to keep the metal parts out of the sewing area, and it has to be a nylon zipper. I have made several, and never broke a needle yet. FOLLOW the INSTRUCTIONS. Good Luck and Have Fun!!!

I am still feeling a bit nervous about trying, but a lot of others seem to be doing them OK. I will try when I'm finished sewing finger puppets, hand puppets and needle cases. I am really enjoying sewing out these in the hoop designs. Be a devil and have a go LOL

No need to be afraid = they are EASY and SO MUCH FUN! Give one a try... Take Bev's suggestion - be sure to use a nylon zipper that is long enough for the ends to be outside of the stitching area and follow the instructions and you will be good to go!

I was frightened too and I finally jumped in and did it. I'm so glad I did! Followed directions exactly, and I've never had a zipper install so easily. I'm sooo loving in-the-hoop projects now.

I was afraid at first but bought one. Just go slow, use lots of tape to hold your zipper in place. Also use a longer zipper than you need so the ends and pull won't be in the way. A line sews first to show where to place zipper. Always use nylon never a metal zip. The needle passes right through the nylon. I hope these tips help and you get over your fear of zippers and you try a project
