There is room above the zip to add a name or initials.
You will need three pieces of fabric, approx 8cm x 12cm, 17cm x 12cm (this should be white) and 12cm x 12cm . Depending on the fabric you choose, you may want to use an interlining or wadding. Choose your own thread colours to suit your fabric. The first 4 colours can all be stitched with the same colour.
Hoop stabiliser and stitch colour 1 which is marks the placement for the zip.
Lay the fastened zip along the line so that the teeth are on the line, the open end to the left of the hoop and all metal parts beyond the edges of the outline. (That is vital - you will need a zip longer than you think!)
Colour 2 will stitch the zip to the stabiliser.
Lay the 8cm x 12cm piece of fabric, face down over the zip and the long edge along the top edge of the hoop. Colour 3 will stitch it to the zip. Flip the lower part of the fabric over to reveal the zip.
Repeat this process with the largest piece of fabric and colour 4.
Colours 5 and 6 stitch the keyboard.
Add a name here if desired.
Open the zip halfway NOW or you will regret it!
Add the final piece of fabric facedown (and a loop if desired) before stitching colour 7.
Remove from hoop, trim away excess fabric about 6mm away from the stitching line. Remove the stabiliser from the area over the zip and turn through.

67367584219Ok, I'm probably showing my ignorance, but I started this in a large hoop, did the zipper placement and then tack down stitch. I am not understanding the placement of the fabric over the zipper. So the 8cm x 12cm piece goes face down with the 12cm running the length of the zipper, but is it centered to where the zipper is in the middle of the 8cm? And then how is the larger piece placed? Thank you for the design, I love it, I just don't understand. thanks for your help. Syrenna

The fabric should cover the zip with the stitching line across the middel. When you flip the fabric back, the top section of the purse will be covered with a double layer of fabric. Repeat that for the other part which is bigger so needs the bigger piece of fabric.
