Excellent! I never thought of going to the Thrift Store for anything sewing. I used to see a lot but not anymore at ours in this area anyway. Hugs & Stitches, Liz
I went into a thrift store the other day and bought 2 sets of Queen Size Bed sheets (Fitted sheet,Flat sheet and 2 pillow cases) for $6 each.
I found two brass candle holders for a $1.00 each. I am making pin holders. Will try to post them when I finish.
I found bags(sandwich size)stuffed full of buttons of all kinds in another bag with some other odds and ends including a roll of ribbon, etc. for $1. I bought several of them - just couldn't leave them behind, knowing the cost of buttons(gave a friend some for her daughter who is just learning to sew).
Well you did good. Buttons cost an arm and a leg. I'll keep looking and maybe I'll find zippers and buttons. Maureen
Buttons, yes. I was at the Gem and Bead show and buttons were $7. and up, yes they were cute, but not cute enough for my pocket book
two skeins of really good yarn for $1.99 each...they would have cost $10.00 each in a yarn store.
I was surprised to find the floppies I use for my ULT2003 at the thrift store. I bought 3 of their little cases for $1.50! Before I had to order them online for $12.00 plus shipping for just one case! I don't think I'll ever have to buy them again as I now have 24x3=72!
My best buy ever was a singer sewing machine for $20.00. The only problem with it was the needle was not pushed up high enough. It makes a great stitch. Betty
You would be surprised at how many people junk machines just because they don't put the needle in right, and it doesn't sew right!
Lucky you! You can make 15 zipper projects! I want to make more ,now that I got started but the lack of zippers, have me stuck.-Toogie
I'm addicted to Goodwill. I just bought 2 pair of
pinking shears at 99 cents each. They were old Wiss
and very sharp. I already have a pair of old Wiss.
Next door Hancocks(fabric addiction) the shears sold
for $35 and $38. I find fabric at Goodwill from time
to time. I love the hunt!Maureen
I go to thrift stores evey week... I have found things from zippers to material that I really wanted, to ready to wear items.... I also found good deals on purses and practically new shoes. Keep up the good work and support a thrift store in your area
I guess My best is I went shopping with my sister and she bought me a lovely jacket for my Birthday no cost to me at all. hehe
Well done you. The shop I have been buying zips from is an Aladdins Cave. We call it "The Utter Clutter Shop"! At the moment they have packs of 6 8inch zips for £1. THat is about the price for one in other shops!
I've just come from a Thrift/secondhand store myself, having bought 4 or 5 oddments of fabric -mostly insulated curtain type fabric I like to use for bags. It was a half price sale, so an even better bargain.
I just bought some pieces of insulated
lining from Fabrics by the Pound. What do
you think of my using it to line some
cosmetic bags? I guess it would be semi-
waterproof. They have a rummage bin for
$1.00 a pound. Never know what will be there.Maureen
as long as you don't put anything wet in there it might be okay, I think :) Good find.
I bought a design for a bed hot water bottle on sale, then bought two new hot water bottles at a thrift store for a $2. One is for a swap at my next retreat. The swap is something in a bottle,oh am i in hot water.cheers Heather
