sgillette asked a question about a marble maze. That just sparked my imagination. I hooped a piece of felt and floated another piece under the hoop. I took a design I had from Dainty Stitches and made it as large as possible in my 5X7 hoop. I stitched it out twice. I used a fabric pen to draw around the inside of my hoop. Removed the design from the hoop. I couldn't add a marble because the maze lines were too narrow. I added a small pearl bead. I used my serger to stitch around the design following the lines I had drawn with my fabric pen. I am not happy with the final product. The pearl bead is too difficult to run through the maze. There have to be fewer lines and they should be an inch apart. It would be better to use fleece as the fabric for it stretches. A marble would maneuver more easily through the fabric and it would be easier to grasp than a small bead. In any case, I think the basic principle would work. I might resort to sewing the maze on my sewing machine, for this is a neat idea and would make a great little toy for the grandchildren...

Hey!!! When Martine and raels said that they had trouble getting the mouse to the cheese, I tried it over. THEY ARE RIGHT....I can't get this mouse to the cheese either.... When I was doing it, I was going over a solid line...It's probably not worth telling Dainty Stitches. Most people probably don't use this for a marble run...

This is what I do. Start at the mouse. Go right, left, right, left, up, up left, left and a bit down, right and to cheese.

I gave the answer. It works for me, anyway.

I think I'm a bit stupid I can't reach the center or the cheese and I'm usually rather good at these.

This is just a small picture. I have a good size piece to work with. I gave the solution that works for me. I would never, never call you stupid. I think you are one very clever lady...

I just took a design that Dainty Stitches created, and my work is not satisfactory yet, but it's such a neat idea that sgilette suggested that I hope to keep trying...

Very good idea, what about a felt or fleece underlay and a clear platic top so you can see the bead or marble move through???????

Hey, that's a thought. I wonder, though, if the marble will glide as smoothly through the plastic. Maybe sheer chiffon, organza...lightweight cotton??? I think the fleece is more flexible. It would be fun to brainstorm with you I think!!

Here is a quilting square that might work. Have seen these in the round also. You might want to look through simple quilting designs for inspiration on this project.

Neat idea. I have some silver small balls that would work perfect. Think they are ball bearings.

Yes, that sounds like a great solution. I would only suggest that you use fleece rather than felt. At least, my felt was too stiff.

Sewmom sent me this link that looks like a design that might work. Scroll down the page to the maze. It is a free design.

Very cute! It is too complex of a design for a marble. I actually want to run gumballs through it. I am a kindergarten teacher and think this would be fun as a reward. (sugarfree of course)
