What would you do? A year ago I signed up for a subscription to a emb site. Today i get an email thanking me for my order. It renewed automatically. So i sent them an email saying i never ordered and they come back saying sorry no refunds on subscriptions. But on their homepage it says memberships expire on anniversary date and do not automatically renew. Now they tell me well cancel it ,we keep your money and I get nothing? I think i will take it up with paypal and get my refund.

Just venting.

he has given you the membership that you actually paid for? How kind of him. They refuse to even speak with me.

Lol, you paid for it, so should have full use of it if you so wished.

I have just been on my paypal account.. looked at the dollarstitch payment.. and it took me to a link called pre-autherised payments.. here I was able to cancel this, so they will not be able to take any future payments from me. also on this page it gives u a list I also had one from 2checkout.com so I have canceled that as well.. :-)

In all honesty.. I never bothered downloading many designs from them anyway.. dont get me wrong they were of good quailty just not the type of designs I like..I went for the dancers and ballerinas that's about it :-) rather cut my loses now..

bevintex by bevintex 05 Apr 2012

I downloaded a few then forgot about them until I was reminded. I have no complaints about the designs ,just the way they run their business.

mooie24 by mooie24 05 Apr 2012

I feel the same.. no reason to take with out asking.. not even a reminder..
I thought they were better then this :-(

edithfarminer by edithfarminer 05 Apr 2012

Please please complain to Paypal and take this further. It is fraud and just think how much money he is raking in through doing this. Paypal will take notice if more complain as well. They do not like that sort of thing bad for their reputation.

bevintex by bevintex 05 Apr 2012

Paypal cannot get your money back because it is an electronic subscription. They can only ask he do the right thing and issue a refund. They did on my behalf but he will not answer. So my complaint is in their system.

Thanks for the warning, Bev, and discussion from everyone.

I've not purchased a membership from dollarstich; however, this happened to me at another embroidery site. Now I NEVER, NEVER, NEVER buy a membership if they say it's automatically renewed. And when I reordered without wanting to, I cancelled way before expiration and made sure I got a notice of cancellation from the site administrator.

Something I also look for is to see if it's a "Christian site." Why would they need to tell me that? Why would I care what their religion is? I think lots of times it's a lie to fool people into thinking they'll do the right thing. It's been my experience that often those who yell the loudest about their own righteousness are the ones who will fool you first. Now before you yell at me, please understand I'm not attacking real Christians or anyone's faith. I'm just saying that we shouldn't believe everything we read or hear-- especially from a business, whose purpose is to make money.

I buy too many embroidery designs-- more than I'll ever stitch out-- LOL! I love Sick, and My Embroidery Store, and Designs by Julia. These are folks who I've called or they have called me to fix problems. Although I've bought many designs, including memberships, on-line without a problem, I know that these three will do whatever it takes to make things right.

Personally I would definitely demand my money back if they renewed without my permission. And you did the right thing by warning us all. Thanks again.

I know this site was posted last year when they were having a really good subscription sale so I am betting there are quite a few Cuties that may have taken the "bait" (because they are doing "bait and switch" - saying one thing all over the site and doing another because they want to). I cancelled mine - a few months before the expiration - and checked my paypal to be sure there was nothing recurring there - hope that takes care of it for me.

I just knew it had to be them. A friend of mine ordered something from them ($10 design). Her credit card company somehow screwed up the payment. Instead of contacting her-she knew nothing about the mixup-he posted all over that she was a thief and banned her from his site. She sent him documentation from the card company after contacting them, but it made no difference. Her sister then wrote to him, since he would not read her emails and he never apologized for HIS mistake.

I agree that for all their supposed Christian ethics, they are very closed minded and will never buy from them.

This is the site which describes itself as "Christian based" Their actions now and in the past have belied that statement.I don't know where they are located but there should be some regulatory body which covers this sort of fraudulent practice.
How can they blatantly advertise:
"These memberships expire on their anniversary date, and do not renew"

by manami 05 Apr 2012

Hi Bev, I would fight to have the money back. It says there "These memberships expire on their anniversary date, and do not renew.". That is enough statement to get your refund.
I'm so surprise some people do this kind of business.

My point exactly!

mooie24 by mooie24 05 Apr 2012

I believe whats on this page.. and when you sign up are two different things, its the actual signe up page that has the small print.. my point being that anybody having faith in their designs and site does not need to sell in this way.. I believe your reputation should be built on reccomendation .. thats my motto with my business..

The webpage statement has now been changed. What a sleazebag. The warning should be posted on every embroidery group to warn others.

This site has been around for a long time and has been a problem more often than not. I don't even take their freebies anymore. The best way to beat them is to spread the word. They left the scene for awhile because there was a rukus about stolen designs but they are back again. There's always something going on with them.

Bev it seems to me that this is called FRAUD. I just went to the site and it still states that it will not renew. You have to go to the category "Dollar Stitch Unlimited Download Membership" to see this statement. I had one and was fortunate that they did not automatically renew it. They did send a letter with the offer of $ 15.00 where they stated the change. Now I would never sign up again even if I had contemplated doing so. I did create a PDF file of the page where it says "no renewal" just in case. Keep us posted. It takes a lot of guts to take your money and then insult upon insult to not let you download anymore. In cases like this one needs to let other customers know. Thanks for doing so. Angie

Wait, so, you were charged for another year when they said you wouldn't be, you paid the $20 and they won't give it back, but they also won't let you download anything either, even though you've now paid for another year. I think I'd copy all the related web pages and your e-mails and send them both to PayPal and the Better Business Bureau. Maybe even, if you've ever gotten any paper communication, the Post Office. They seem like generally quiet sorts, but they don't take kindly to fraud being perpetrated thru the mails, that is a full-on felony, and they do get quite nasty. Internet, heaven only knows, it's like the wild west out here. Best of luck to you, don't let it drop. You know, if he does that to 1000 people, and nobody complains, that's $20,000 in his pocket for nothing! Wish I had that kind of job. Don't let him get away with it, any of you! Hugs from the revolutionary rabble-rouser, Marji

Bev when you take it up with paypal the process will indicate that paypal cannot deal with intagible products, but put the dispute in anyway. use the goods not as described option. I selected time sensitive in the options. Paypal cannot force the refund but the company will end up with a dispute on their record and they don't like that. I have just been through this on the weekend and I got my money back from a web hosting company. I actually phoned paypal and asked them what the best thing to do was.

Right I spoke with them on the phone and because of the nature of the electronic subscription what they could do is request a refund ,which they did, I got a copy of the email. But it is up to him and from what I can see there will be no refund forthcoming.

The site is dollarstitch, Paypal has asked that he refund my money but have heard nothing from him. They did close the acct and he can no longer charge me. It was 20 dollars. I went back and read the terms and conditions. He states he can make any changes he chooses, cancel your acct,if you complain to paypal he will say you filed a fradulent claim and you acct is cancelled. In other words no refunds. When I asked for an download button before cancelling he also would not answer. So he has my 20 dollars, I have nothing. If you have an acct there go in and be sure he does not have access to charge your acct. Right now he's offering a year for 15.00. Both myself and another cutie were renewed at 20. She also does not want it but so sorry, no refund policy. I am being ignored and if he chooses to do nothing I will consider it a donation because he must need money badly to treat his customers this way.My money may be gone and next time i will remember if it sounds too good to be true it usually is. Has anyone else had problems with Bart?

I have closed my account even though it still had several months to run. He told me that someone was telling lies to hurt his business, but I told him just close mine and delete me from all you have. I checked in my paypal and found no trace of a possible renewal but found that by the look of it a business can just charge you. I am glad you have reported him to Paypal and I am quite confident that they will refund the money to youplease point out it is fraud!!!, . I hope other cuties will do the same if this happens to any of you as this will get on his records with paypal and make him not trust worthy

edithfarminer by edithfarminer 05 Apr 2012

of a possible renewal though by the looks of it a trader can just charge you for something. Please remind Paypal that it is fraud to just take money and they need to deal with it.

Bev, please share the site name. If it says in two places that it does not auto-renew, and then they automatically charge your card, others need to know to be on their guard. Sometimes I don't pay as close attention to my checking statements as I should, because I know what's coming out when. If this happened to me, and caused a bounced check with all the associated charges, I'd be livid! Maybe they'd return the membership price, but who'd pay all the fees? Some of us don't have the cash leeway, and don't use credit cards, so I don't think telling the name would be in any way "unkind", it would be doing a lot of us a good turn so we could be careful. Please consider helping out, as a lot of the others in this post have asked as well. Thanks, and big hugs, Marji

Bev, if I am not mistaken, you can always go to your PayPal account, pull up the sites to which you have a subscription, and check to cancel any renewals scheduled. But, as you did not do this soon enough, and it read that the subscription did not automatically renew, I would explain the issue to PayPal. I understand PayPal is excellent in protecting consumers. Good luck!

67271
by pcteddyb 31 Mar 2012

Did you use a checking account or credit card with paypal? If a credit card you can file a dispute with the credit card company too. You have the ammunition to fight for a refund (from paypal or the bank) - I would.

Please share the name of the site if they do not provide you a timely refund. This might save other Cuties from the same issue in the future (especially if it was a site shared here on Cute).

I may know which site it is and will want to be sure I cancel mine in time (because I do not plan to renew - the membership was cheap but there is not enough there for me to renew).

I would absolutely challenge this one. If they broke their own policy, then Paypal should get involved. Is this paid through a credit card? IF so, then your bank should help you as well. That is highway robbery, plain and simple. No matter what the price. Good luck!!
