Hi Cuties, I just wonder how far are you willing/need to Travel to get your necessaries for sewing/embroidery.

It is about 25 mins to nearest town for sewing and embroidery supplies. I go once a month. order alot on line, and go once a year to great fabric place and spend alot. It usually lasts about 10 months worth of sewing and other crafts projects. Working on Christmas projects for the house now. I try to buy in bulk, when I can. Grannieannie

I have to drive 65 miles (one way) to my quilt shop and dealer. Also in the same town is a Joanns, Hancocks, Hobby Lobby, another quilt shop and Michaels. I usually make a couple trips a month but for the last year all I have to do is go to my sewing room as I have a quilt shop in there. Ha ha

I have an old fashioned shop in town but they have nothing for machine embroidery. Nearest shop 45 miles away and that only sells one type of cutaway and one type of stitch and tear!!! Sarah.

I have a local patchwork shop just 5 mins away. Can usually get what I need but she isn't cheap and she's grumpy. Spotlight about 20 mins and my machine dr about 30 mins the other direction. No complaints from me.. xx

In Montana for anything Bernina it was 170 miles to Billings and 145 mles to Great Falls. Even fabric stores are that far if you want choices. In our case none locally.

Since I live in the country, I have about 1/2 hr to any store. I ususally don't make a special trip for sewing. If I am going for something else, I can stop for sewing necessities. Joyce

I only need to travel 10 minutes, but the house across the road from the store was up for sale. I joked to my (school aged) kids that we should buy it!! They were not impressed!!

I travel as far as my computer where I buy from websites in the States or UK, since I am in Australia I guess that means I am willing to travel 12,000 miles to get what I need. :-)

I usually have to ring Whyalla Spotlight, but it's around 270kms and I don't go there often. Port Lincoln is closer, and has a great patchwork shop and a few embr. things.

For embroidery supplies I have to make a run into the city which is about 15 min. to the edge of the city and then probably another 10-15 to the dealers where I got my machine and another 10 to another dealers. Most places other than dealers don't carry emb. supplies. I have learned a lot on this site and now get most things on line unless it's something I need NOW! Fabric I have to also go into the city or if I go visit the GK's and hour and half away there is a fabricland and a good dealer with a good variety of supplies.

Yes, but not because there are no stores nearby. I drive about 45 minutes to my store because they give me 20% off everything..... With the price of gas still going up... I may just buy from the local store.

Is embroidery a big thing in Iceland,Sorry I know very little about your country.

sigrun by sigrun 04 Apr 2012

Yes many women and men too are interesting in Embroidery, but they are sewing cloth as well and the knitting are in fashion too here in Iceland - do you have heard of Icelandic wool sweater? they are very popular around the world.

berny by berny 04 Apr 2012

Yes, I could knit better than embroider.

I buy most of my threads and stabilizers on line. For fabric and craft supplies we have 2 super Walmarts open 24 hours,Hancock Fabric,Hobby Lobby, and a Michaels. All in town within 20 minutes driving time, Also like to shop when out of town. may go to Dallas,Ft Worth area once every 6 months or so. I live in Abilene Texas and the only thing we don't have I would like is a JoAnns. They went out of business when Michaels moved in. I also like ebay .

I have 2 quilt stores close by, but quilting cotton fabric can cost up to $12 a yard now and they rarely put anything on sale. So, to get to a JOann's or the Walmart that still carries fabrics i have to go over the continental divide about 80 miles to the Walmart or 100 miles to the Joann's. But, if anyone suggested a trip - I'd go in a minute!

fabric in U.K.average price was about £10 yd can spend up £18.fat !/4 about £2-50 so when I hear fat 1/4 @ $1 I'm envious.

pldc by pldc 03 Apr 2012

well here @ home our local quilt store sells fabric @ about $15.99 a meter or 39inches, she has a sale once a year sometimes!

Where do you live???

bowlds by bowlds 03 Apr 2012

Montana!! It's a big state full of little towns.

bowlds by bowlds 03 Apr 2012

My brother called the manufacturer of his jet ski for parts once and was thrilled when he only had to drive 70 miles one way to get the part. The lady on the other end of the phone about passed out!

bowlds by bowlds 03 Apr 2012

And that's 200 miles one way! We have a nice quilt shop in town but nothing embroidery related. And, I don't quilt, what a waste for me!

sandyqueen by sandyqueen 04 Apr 2012

Which part of Montana?

I like shopping local, as a Hancocks and a Joanns are within ten miles of my home. Supplies I order mostly online. When I purchased my commercial machine online from someone approximately a hundred miles away from me, I did choose to checkout my purchase first, and to bring it home safely, plus saving shipping. Online has opened up a new world for us, huh? LOL

berny by berny 03 Apr 2012

Have you got a big stash or do you buy as you need it,It sounds like Heaven.

anangel by anangel 04 Apr 2012

Oh, I cannot resist buying "another" fabric each visit, although my stash is close to placing me as labeled a "hoarder"!! LOL But, when they find me beneath my stash, all they will see is my big smile!!

I am lucky my closest shop is only about 5 mins away. I've also got Spotlight in Newcastle (about 20 mins) and Lincraft at another shopping centre only 20 minutes away in another direction. I've been with Meg and Pauline down to Penrith a couple of hours away and of course I've travelled all over Italy, Greece, Israel, Turkey and Singapore to buy fabric! Aren't I lucky? Love and blessings Chris

How far do you have to travel. I have a 2 and a half our journey one way to get my machine serviced. There is no one closer and its the dealer I bought from. Is it worth the hassle - yes. Threads etc get bought when away or out for the day. I have found Ebay excellent for threads and got some from Kingstar http://www.somac.co.uk/kingstar_t... who have just emailed with a offer. I have been known to phone friends who live have shops with what I want near them. I have also learnt to be resourceful and use what I have and use things in alternative ways

First time I've heard of this company, so I've sent for shade card and prices. Might be too large an order required for me to buy but we'll see. Abakhan fabrics is really the only fabric shop left in Liverpool and is only minutes away. Jan
