I posted some more pics of Dad's tatting in Project.
Thanks for the love!
My Granny taught me to do this when I was small - BUT have never done anything this big or this beautiful - it takes time and practice. Tell your Dad he is a clever guy and thanks to you for posting this pic.
AMAZING!!! please tell your Grand Dad I am totally in awe of him. I have always wanted to learn to do tatting and have even looked on Ebay for a Tatting thingy to buy, but have no idea what is a good one to start with. Maybe one day.
Apologies about aging your Dad, I was thinking how Grand his work is and I had a slip of the fingers. LOL!!!
So very lovely! My gramma used to do tatting and I had planned to learn (I have a book that shows how) to tat, but so far have not. I thinkg tatting is so gorgeous.
Thosse are so beautiful! My husband's grandmama gave me a tatting tool, but I never learned to do it.
Your Dad sure is talented. Thanks for showing us. Hugs yvonne
What incredible heirlooms these are! They are just beautiful and even more special! Thanks for posting them.
Cathy, this is amazing. Thank you for posting your dad's handy work. Sarah.
Your Dad is amazing. My Aunt tried to teach me tatting years ago, but I still cant master it.
I'll share a funny abt tatting. My Mom taught me and as we were working she told this story on herself. As her MIL was teaching her, Mom kept tying knots and was getting frustrated. Dad said 'let me see that'. Mom said he just started tatting away. She told me she got angry with him for doing it so easily. They all had a good laugh.
Has anyone ever tried the tatting designs from this site? They look lovely.
Fantastic!. I can tat but find it hard on my left hand and patience. Your Dad deserves a medal. Jan
I envy anyone who can tat & still have good eye
sight at 89 to do it ,is wonderful. You are lucky to have such an amazing father who can do so any things ,that once would have been considered womens work.
In the past few years, Dad can't do the same things he did all his life. My Mom is having a hard time with this as she is so used to him being able to fix anything. I told her, you're going to have to get used to hiring people like everyone else has to do!!! He could do anything, still can. He even likes to do his taxes!!!
This is beautifully done.On my g-daughters dedication gown ,I posted in Projects last year or so, had tatting on the gown and the sheer apron, tatting that I bought and might add paid dearly for.Your Dad's look professionaly tatted.Hugs to you both-Toogi
This is wonderful job. Your Dad must be a very patient man. I would not have sat still after watching my DL she is into this. I found complete admiration watching her.
I envy anyone who can tat. I tried to learn but the Lady who tried to teach me said I had the equivalent to two left feet. My Dear Mother would not be proud of me as she used to tat. Beautiful Work.
I'm guessing it's hard to teach it too. All I have to do is watch and know it's not for me!
Forgot to say Tatting is a dying art here in Australia which is a shame. Joyce
This is beautiful. I used to do a fair bit of tatting but the old eyes have given up it doesn't look so dainty when you have to use thicker cotton. Your dads is beautiful and dainty. Regards Joyce
Thank you, I will share the love with him! He will be thrilled that everyone appreciates it, people don't always know the work involved in tatting.
These are lovely pieces. My mom did tatting with the shuttles and when we packed to move I found a pansy doily made probably 60 or so years ago.
Your Dad's tatting is truly amazing. It is the one thing I never learned to do...Please tell him his work is greatly admired.
Tell him well done i did this years ago and i know it hard on the eyes and the thread was way thinner then it is today .Please tell him great job and give him one of my hugs OJ Carolyn in Northern,Ontario in the bush
Ohmygoodness, that's fantastic! I really enjoy hearing about people of either gender who go against the 'social norms' and do what they enjoy!
I probably have a larger collection of tools, nuts and bolts etc than most men I know :)
Good for you! My Dad can bake pies and can. When I was a girl, he was the one that helped me with my sewing. I thought all Dad's did that!
I think that this is amazing!HUgs Loralye
Congratulations to your Dad. Wonderful work. I have tried tatting too, but also gave it up. The samples look very fine and lacy.
These are gorgeous ... For your Dad to make a table cloth is an amazing achievement. I tat but mainly stick to small projects. Give him a hug,he does beautiful work. Thank you so much for sharing glad Christine asked.
