Question, I have always used Nebs L sized pre-wound bobbins. I know winding my own is cheaper but just hate doing it. Finding they are getting more and more expensive compared to regular plastic sided bobbins. Has anyone used both types, regular and nebs and if so can you give me a comparison. I have vikings Ruby embroidery machine in case that matters.

thanks a bunch

I haven't used pre-wound bobbins personally, but talked to my machine repairman about them. He advised me that each different kind of bobbin thread, ESPECIALLY the pre-wound variety, will most likely require a slight adjustment to the bobbin tension in order to work correctly. So if you try a different brand, be prepared to tinker with your bobbin tension. I had to have mine set special, since I run a very fine bobbin thread. It took them half a dozen times in the shop to finally get it right. I'm not trying to worry you. Just letting you know that a change in threads might make a difference with your results. Good luck with your hunt.

I've got the Baby Lock Ellisimo...I use class 15A plastic side bobbins...I've used Janome and Metro. Janome are over twice as expensive and I find no difference in performance. Metro plastic class 15A are wonderful...and a great price! I'm a believer and I also use their thread...also a fantastic value and the sheen is unsurpassed.

My machine, husq Ruby, accept all the brand of prewound bobbins, but the machine does not warn for the end of all the bobbins, only those with plastic side.
When I had the machine husq designer 1, she does not liked the bobbins that I made myself, It is why I have take the habit of prewound bobbins, and I found this convenient

I started with NEBS and then got some Metro when I ordered thread pack. I tossed them in a drawer with the Nebs and have never noticed any difference. Funny, I usually am more particular about keeping seperate until I test them out, but guess I just thought "bobbins are bobbins are bobbins" and didn't! No difference as far as I can tell, I have the Diamond viking. Linda

Me too--I've never used a pre wound one. Do you have to change the bobbin case to use them? Since I use my machine for both sewing and embroidery, I'm a little nervous about changing things and forgetting to change back.

I have used NEBS from my dealer and the ones from MetroEmb.com and they work equally well in both of my Brother machines - but the MetroEmb are WAY less expensive.

I use the Metro ones as well and all of my machines work fine with them. Love the price.

I use the Metro card board side L (remove the card board before inserting in machine so bobbin empty feature can work)for my 3 Pfaff machines and have no trouble at all.
