This is just to test Sue's question.... Why do we have legs?

I think they are so we can have laps for kitties ...

When I look at the videos of our Vets who have lost their legs, serving our Country, and really our world, it really makes me appreciate my own legs. How easy it is just to jump out of bed and walk. We are truly blessed to have legs, knees, ankles, feet and toes. The loss of any of them creates quite a hardship. That song, Say a Prayer for Peace, really is true.

Jan, the Lord gave me legs, because He knew I am so determined, I would scoot on my butt to get wherever I need to go!! LOL
I agree that once you win the love of a cat, it wants a comfy lap! Sam, our tomcat, was a stray that I coaxed for six months to be allowed to touch him. Now, he looks like he is annoyed, if I do not sit down for him to jump into my lap!

I have short legs too. I always like to prop them up on something. I can easily touch my toes - he he.

I've observed that it is easy to make a dog love you - really easy. You feed them, you pet them, they love you and they will save your life if you need them to.
But it takes a lot to make a cat love you - you have earn its trust and respect and then, maybe, you get put on probation for about a year. If you pass probation, they will probably love you, or at least like you. But with a cat, you have earned the love.

You really have to earn the trust of a feral! My sister and I used to love to tame wild kittens on the farm. They could really spit and hiss even as newborns :-) in the barn.

OH MY GOSH .... this is GREAT Gerry ... I so agree ... as mine is in FL and I am not ...

hightechgrammy by hightechgrammy 15 Apr 2012

Me too, Gerry. I have two that still fit on my lap, and they are in Florida, West Palm Beach. Two adorable boys! I have three big ones in Indiana that just don't fit on the lap anymore. There is nothing like a grandkid on your lap, is there!

obaachan by obaachan 15 Apr 2012

Oh Jan ... mine is in Orlando ... the only one I have .. I agree .. there is nothing like your Grandchild on you lap !!!

gerryb by gerryb 15 Apr 2012

I have to share this. Even though my older 2 are 14 & 10, when they stay with us overnight they will come in & sit on Granny's lap to pray together before bed. Not every night, sometimes I go to their room, but oh how I cherish those times & hope they will too.

hightechgrammy by hightechgrammy 15 Apr 2012

I call those times my "Fill Me UP" times. Can't you just feel yourself filling up when you are with your grandkids?!!

I haven't really had this pleasure yet as my GK's are quite, not shy, but not outgoing. But I have lay down on their parents bed, with three of them snuggled up to me, while I read them a story. It was so special, even thinking of it makes my eyes watery. :-)

I haven't any cats but my Chihuahua's love it pretty good. I'm not always ready for a bread when they are though. LOL

The "new" doggie is quite jealous of the cats when it comes to laps. As soon as a cat lands in our laps, Bia has to come put a paw up as if to ask if she can come up too. Service dogs can't do that, so I've been having Ben sit with her on the floor and rub her belly. That's better than a lap. Cats rule, and dogs drool. :-)

My three cats play musical laps with me, while the dog lies under my foot rest. Oddly enough it is our rescue cat that will stay on my lap the longest and at 20lbs in weight my legs start going to sleep long before he is ready to get down! LOL!!

Meganne, I can just picture this happening! Some cats just lay claim to your lap and others like shoulders. One of mine demands I lift him up to look out the window, even though he has a perfectly fine window to look out. He's only 14 pounds.

I so love my animals, Ray said we should have named our home, Animal House instead of Possum Lodge.
I have 16 mallard ducks, 8 woodducks and up to 10 water dragons who come from everywhere, as soon as they hear my voice. I just love it!

hightechgrammy by hightechgrammy 16 Apr 2012

I love it too! No water fowl or dragons, but we do have the daily fox, frequent moose, and we feed wild birds. They are kittytainment. I have to check the yard before I send out the dog now. It is special, isn't it!

Great answer! My cat loves to sit in my lap while I'm in the rocking chair. I think the motion soothes him as he purrs up a storm.
