makeing cord from embroidery threads.

this is how i use a childs hair braider to make cord as long as i want and in whatever colour i wish it to be and even as thick as i need it too be.
you do need to have the threads at least six foot long and then if doubled to give you three foot long you will end up with a cord about 18 inches. this is because the threads are twisted.
it is an easy and fun thing to do and looks so good when put onto a tote or cushion and useing small zig zag stitches sewn down into position. you can wind and turn the cord on the fabric to give some wonderfull effect and especialy for flower stems.
the cord makes wonderfull holding straps for those wristets and as you can co-ordinate the colours you get something that is very much a YOU product, try makeing spectable holders so that you do not loose them, or even fasten your scissors to a looped length and the fasten it on your wrist so you do not drop them and damage the points.
i hope this wil help some of you to push the bounds of imagination a little further for very little cost. All those threads that you cannot use are a great bonus here have fun.

Never seen or heard of a hair braider. The cord you showed looks the same as the handmixer/drill variety - and the electric tools twist the threads real fast.

Annie, is the finished product different from that achieved by crafter2243's method?

this is not the hollow cord that is the japanese cord but more like the twisted string cord. girls use this to add beads and ribbons into their long hair. you can get these quite cheap on e bay go for the four pronged one if you can as that givd you the benite of haveing two, three or four strands to work with so mixing more coloures if you want to .

I think what I do must be like this. Grandma showed me. Gather strands as many and a long as you please. Twist them (used to ask my kids to help)to the point where they would twist within themselves. Using a scissor as weight scoot half of cords through the handle, hold both ends and let the scissor twist the cords. After no more children living in my house. I used my electric drill by using a picture hanger hook instead of a drill bit, hooked them into the knotted end of the strands and the other end on a door knob. I hope this makes sense. Difficult sometime to put things into words.
