Uganda Quilt Project Update - Sunday April 22 - Andrea and Pavel are thrilled with the number of quilts completed and have told Patrick, the director of the orphanages in Uganda about them. Pavel said, "His reaction was out of this world and he applauded on Skype." Andrea and Pavel will come up here on May 6th to get the quilts to take back to Denver for the trip. Can't wait to see them!

Here is the question I have for all participants in this project.... In addition to the 80 orphans, there are the older 9 orphans of the original Uganda Project. Their age range from 15-24, and Patrick is one of them. Do you think we could send a quilt to each of them also???
I know I have made 14 quilts, and at least 6 of them are a bit larger. Some of you made larger quilts.... are there any of you who would consider your quilt being placed in the hands of one of the older orphans? I know I can make at least three more, if need be, but maybe some of you who have made more than one, might appreciate sharing your love with these older orphans who are helping the younger orphans... I really believe we are going to have enough quilts to send at least 85 small ones, Plus 9 more.... Truly, what do YOU who have participated in some way, think? We have a little more time... I have more fabric.... Hugs, and God Bless YOU all, Jan

Jan, I just mailed 7 more quilts to you. The PO said 2-3 days, so expect another batch. I sure wouldn't mind them going to any age. They are one big family, so it would just be logical that each and every one of them should receive a gift!!! I wish I would have known earlier, and could have made bigger ones. I tried to stick to the parameters you laid out in the original plans. I'm pretty sure that by the time they are shipped, there will be one for each and a size suitable for every single member of that very large family!!
Wouldn't it be fun to record the Giving Of The Quilts and Gifts, and then post the video for everyone to view??

I think it is a wonderufl thought! It would make them feel special too. I wish I had more time, lol! I would make one just for that reason, lol! Maybe I'll make extras next time around, in time for August and make one larger for the older group.
Hugs and God Bless

too sweet, Diane- you have already made enough!! They will be incredibly surprised. I know they will appreciate them even more as they will be old enough to recognize all the work that has gone into them :-) They will be thrilled!

My quilt isn't big enough, but if someone wants to add some extra borderlength around it, I would be OK with that. It is rather masculine/plain, so would suit an older guy. I can send some matching plaid fabric, if you would like it - I have plenty.

You are so sweet, your quilt is just right for a medium kid and it's finished :-) Let's keep it that way. What a sweet thought though. I guess you think it's a neat idea to send some to the older orphans too :-) I cut out another older boy quilt last night....

clintonmiss22 by clintonmiss22 23 Apr 2012

Yes, I'm great with the quilts going to the older ones!! I can make another simple, larger one. Give me some dimensions and a few days, if you need it.

hightechgrammy by hightechgrammy 23 Apr 2012

I really don't think anyone will have to make any more quilts, except maybe I might need to make one or two for an older boy to replace the larger ones that could go to the older orphans... You are amazing!!1

I was planning on making one for Patrick anyway.. one for the wall, so actually this is just 8 more. I cut out a larger one, suitable for a boy last night. Just squares in Africa colors. I have tons, TONS of scraps! Hasn't this just been a joy!?!!

It's OK with me. I believe one of the rag quilts I made was a larger one. Now I have to laugh since I took of panels of the first quilt after reading the 2nd e-mail measurements. I should have left well alone Ha, Ha. I am not sure if you are asking to have additional ones made. If so PM me.

I don't think we will actually need more quilts. Just maybe if some of the cuties wouldn't mind their larger quilts going to the older orphans. There are three sisters and their girl cousin, three brothers, another boy and Patrick who is 22. They are all orphans too, who are helping the little orphans.

hightechgrammy by hightechgrammy 22 Apr 2012

all orphans too, who help the little orphans! I think we could do it. There are still lots of quilts on their way, and in my community. People just needed a little more time to complete them.

Jan I think my quilts could easily suit and older person as it signifies their culture and could foot the bill. I would be honored that they receive it

Michelle, that is so sweet. I know they would feel the love stitched in just as much as the tiny ones. Your quilts are extra long and so beautiful!

hightechgrammy by hightechgrammy 23 Apr 2012

Michelle, what would you think of your quilt going to the youngest of the brothers, Dennis, who is 15? Wouldn't it be just perfect for him - he would understand all the designs and what they mean about Uganda! Only if that is what you want, though :-) We could add his name wherever you would want.

I WOULD BE THRILLED,
Hugs Michelle

Dear Jan, Bless your heart, and all Cuties are helping with this wonderful project. I just sent you money via Paypal, it is not much, but I hope it helps.
I'm not a quilter, but I do have many blocks from my test stitching. If someone wants, I'll send them gladly. Love and hugs, Yoriko

Oh Yoriko, Bless YOUR heart! Thank You, I still have lots of cut out squares I can stitch quickly, and it would be fun to include more designs between them. IF you think you could mail quickly, that would be fun! Thank You, Yoriko, Love and hugs!

manami by manami 23 Apr 2012

Hi Jan, please give me your address so I can send at least some of them to you. I have 2 big boxes full of test stitching.
Love and hugs,Yoriko

Oh my! Jan Wharton PO Box 516 Grand Lake, CO 80446 USA just a few, not 2 big boxes. Remember to keep it light as the shipping hits a certain weight from there and gets totally unreasonable! If you'll pick kind of a theme and color, I can have the coordinating fabric ready to stitch! Thank YOu!

hightechgrammy by hightechgrammy 23 Apr 2012

coordinating fabric all ready to stitch! Thank you so very much, Yoriko.
