Those of you that use Badgemaster for fsl. Can you get by with just one layer or do you need 2?

I have not used the badgemaster but understand you have to keep it all sealed up to not ruin it with humidity (or in my case, in Arizona, no humidity). Don't have that problem with Vilene so it is what I use (from world weidner in the 50 yd size).

I use badgemaster for a lot of fsl. I use 1 layer for less dense items and 2 layers for more dense items. I use vilene type products if I don't need it for dense items, but badgemaster is great for me!

I only use vilene and get very good results. Have never used Badgemaster washaway - didn't know you get it other than the stick on one. ****

You could use 1 layer of Badgemaster and 1 layer of Vilene. Vilene rinses out easily and Badgemaster takes longer to rinse out so adding a layer of Vilene when needing 2 layers would cut down on rinse time!

I love Badgemaster. I usually use 1 layer, and if there are problems I piece in with scrap. If I do need another layer(really dense design), I usually will use a solvy topping. 2 layers of BM has to soak for a long time and you have to hand manipulate it to get all of it out, especially if you are using a 50 wt. or more cotton. I bought mine by the 50 yd roll! LLDS!

I'm going to try it out with a small order first.

I use only one, and when rinse away the final design it is softer than when using vilene...***

I think it would depend on the stitch count of the design. For a design that is stitch intensive and that has many thousands of stitches and many layers of stitches 2 layers of Badgemaster would work best.

Remember to keep your Badgemaster is an air tight bag as it will dry out!

When using Vilene for a design that has a larger stitch count use 2 layers also.

If I'm stitching out just a couple of things in the same hoop I use 1ayer. If I'm using the big hoop I use 2 layers. Don't pull it after you hoop it because if it is too tight when the needle pierces it the result will be like it is perforated and tear on it's own. I never have a problem with it and use it all the time.

I thought badgemaster was for making patches. Not?? Is it more like water soluble stabilizer? Then what do you use to make actual patches??? Sooo confused in Colorado

It is a washaway stabilizer. I guess you could make a badge with it?

For badges I like to use a heavy cotton backing, like thick denim or twill. I have used badgemaster with it on occasion.
Hope this helps!

Badge master is so heavy. I think one layer is fine. Ask Shirlene as she is th Queen of free standing lace. I only do it occasionally.
