UGANDA QUILT UPDATE - MAY 1, 2012 We now have 92 completed quilts nearly ready to pack up for their big journey. There are still three more I know of in transit from Cuties. There are 5 more I need to gather from my community. I only have 4 quilt tops (our of 7!!) sent by Chris's friend in Australia to complete. I'm putting the backing an binding on, and they already have the Made with Love designs on them. I've become much better at the 2.5 inch bindings and mitered corners now! Lots of practice :-)

Friday my friends and I are going to roll them and label them. Sunday, Pavel and Andrea are coming up here from Denver to get the quilts for their big trip to Uganda!
Only Pavel is going to go on this trip, and Andrea will go in August. But there are others from their group, so Pavel will have some help with the bags of quilts and other goodies. Pavel has promised he will take tons of photos of the kids with the quilts. I am disappointed Andrea will not be going with them, but she will at least get to see them before they are packed, and she'll also see them in August when they are already well loved by the children. Pavel and Andrea are really excited - probably more than we are - to see these extraordinary gifts you have made from all your hearts! Patrick, the director of the orphanages, is ecstatic! Won't he be surprised when there are quilts for the older orphans!
The Lord is so good! What a blessing these quilts will be for these children. I'm sending a couple of permanent fabric markers so the kids' names can at least be written on them. Can you think of anything else that would be a good idea to send - only tiny things?
Thank you, all who have joined in the adventure, in one way or another! We have enough quilts! Praise the Lord!
Hugs and more hugs, Jan
I'll try to take some photos when the light is right!

All along, I kind of wanted to make little sewing kits to send; not to every child but to those who might be able to help with repairs. Children have a way of using up their most favorite possessions and then it is heartbreak because it is not right. I wasn't sure how they would be received though.

Actually I thought of it too. I think good
idea for the elder kids, caretakers to make repairs but also wondered about how it would be received. Probably never seen
these things.

Praise God from whom all blessings and quilts flow!! This is so wonderful, and Cindy's prayer is a perfect blessing for the safe travel of the dear ones whose hands will bear these precious gifts of love home to Uganda. Perhaps on the day Pavel and his group travels, we can all pray this pray through out the day. Hugs and blessings to all and especially to Jan for continued good health and strength as she winds up this phase of her terrific project. ro

This whole project has kept us excited. Wish I could see the faces on the kids when they each get their own quilt! They are going to be so happy! Thank you Jan for this huge undertaking and thanks to all who helped in their own ways. This is a special gift from everyone's hearts and hands and I know they will be loved.

What a Great project, Jan. Wish I could have been more involved with it. All those quilts and all the fabrics, was a sight to see!

I chuckle when I think you didn't know what you'd do with your retirement days. :-) And your DH said he was sure you'd be jumping into another big project when this one was completed!

Chris, this is so exciting. I am sure every Cutie would love to be a little fly on the wall to watch the kids receive their quilt. What wonderful things can be accomplished when we work together with God by our side. Thanks so much for all your work on this project. Love and Blessings to you and to Pavel, Andrea, and those who are going on this journey. I offer this prayer for s safe journey.

"Prayer for a Safe Journey"

O Lord, we humbly ask you to give Your Almighty protection to all travelers.
Accept our fervent and sincere prayers that through Your great power and unfaltering spirit, those who travel may reach their destination safe and sound.

Grant Your divine guidance and infinite wisdom to all who operate automobiles, trains, planes and boats. Inspire them with due sense of duty and knowledge and help them guide those entrusted in their care to complete their travel safely.

We thank You, Oh Lord, for Your great mercy and unending love to all mankind and for extending Your arm of protection to all travelers.

Amen

Chris, your quilts are all set to go, and I'm just finishing the ones from Dianne - they are turning out adorable, and I think she'd be just satisfied with my bindings. But they are on there securely and neatly, if not perfectly. I think any one of Diane's quilt tops could have been a prize winner!

Dianne's quilt tops could have been a prizewinner. All the little dresses look really cute together! Just imagine what they will look like with all those little girls wearing them! Thank you for all the ways you helped!
