Check out the Floriani stabilizers. I just went to one of their a seminars and discovered their awesome materials!
Thank you all for the help - I am going to try to get some leathers to practice on first.
I have been coming here (watching the freebie section) but looks like I have been missing lots - Glad to meet you all!!
By the way do any of you do custom work for money? and if so how do you decide pricing.

I have done some embroidery on leather, used a leather needle and just hooped tear away stabiliser then spray adhersive and attached the leather.
Hugs Yvonne
Urban threads has a tutorial this week about embroidering on leather(sorry-do not know how to put in website link) Looked very helpful.
Shirlener88, these are just beautiful frame sets...gives me such inspiration...
I have done lots of embroidery work on leather in the past - I find a tear away stabilizer works well - place the leather on top of the stabilizer with a light adhesive spray - no pins or hooping. You must be careful to test out your design - whether it be leather or a thck material - so you know where any problems might be with it - once you stitch on leather - there are holes made in it from the needle and no matter if you can uncut the stitches - you can not take out the holes - so be very careful.
As for denim - I use the same technique as with leather - but don't have to worry so much about the holes in the fabric - Hehehe!
I also use a leather or denim needle.
Wow, those are all so pretty! I've not seen photographs of leather embroidery before. I especially love the green frame.
Thank you.
PS: WELCOME to the CUTE family - you will enjoy the site and the fellowship of crafters.
These are so good. Someday I will get my nerve up for leather. Do you have any tips where to buy it?
They are lovely Shirlene!would love to have a go, got 1/2 skin where are the designs from.or where could I get some,
hope that you love it here, I know I do!
& I too agree with Lillian I also slowed my machine down considerable, I used tissue paper when I sewed out on to pleather & the wss was too sticky because the heat from the machine's speed made it stick add to that use a leather needle I believe they are 16's
Leather will be as if it is sticky.I have sewn leather on my walking foot machine that has a top and bottom feed. I would try some thin top stablizer on it, it might help.
Hugs Pam.
denim not a problem, same as any other material. Leather, don't know waiting for response from someone who knows how.
Eager to see the replies, have almost a whole skin, no idea what to do with it
I would echo what Miss Lil has said and add use either sticky paper or a magnetic hoop if you have one. Be sure that if your design ends at the center and you don't have any stitching there to change the last stitch to stop at the end of the design. Ditto with the first stitch.
If the design ends at the center - you will have a needle hole and you wouldn't want that on leather.
I would purchase a leather embroidery needle if I were you. I have done very little leather embroidery but there others here who have done more and I am sure they will help you.I did not find it difficult but I remember I had to loosen my tension a bit. I would not use a dense design either. / You will have better help than mine soon I am sure/Lillian
