Someone asked if our kids will just associate their quilts as an item only for sleeping. Andrea's reply was she was sure they would sleep with them, but they would be playing with them like capes, and making tents, sitting on them, and dragging them around and they would be involved in all sorts of their play. So, they will be an all purpose companion to the kids! Isn't that just wonderful!
Pavel's brother just gave him a new camera for his 21st birthday, just for this trip. He said he would take tons of pictures. Andrea was telling me that Patrick, the director of the orphanage doesn't hide his feelings. He knows there are some quilts coming, but when they saw the actual quilts they both said, there is no way Patrick could imagine what is coming. That he is going to be AMAZED and ASTOUNDED. Andrea said Patrick will literally be jumping up and down he'll be so excited for his kids. Then, after the little kids all get their quilts, there will be the surprise bag with the quilts for the older orphans - and one for Patrick too. Pavel just kept saying how beautiful they all were and how unbelievable all the work that went in to them. Andrea really noticed all the little details you all put in on them and just kept shaking her head in disbelief. She kept getting teary.
Dear Jan, this post has made me cry. I'm so thrilled that your vision for these beautiful orphans has come to fulfilment. Now it's time for you to take a rest. God bless you and all the Cuties who worked so hard to get these done. Love always Chris
I too am moved to tears as I read your post! Thanks so much for giving us a wonderful opportunity to give to others! God Bless you and all who helped with this work. I echo Chris on the rest! Hugs and Blessings, ro
Amazing. Just view the projects and saw some of the quilts. All I can think of is how many questions the children are going to ask about the quilts and what is one them. So much for them to learn.
Thank You! I can't imagine the question!! The map one was so much fun and the back has animals by continents on it - I just didn't like it being so horizontal. I only made the really fast kind of quilt. Could you believe those from Dianne in Australia??
Here are some photos to go along with our precious quilts' big adventure.
First are a few stacks in my sewing room before packing day
Second, are some of the smallest quilts rolled
Third, My friend LInda helping me roll quilts - she helped tons!
Fourth - Me with a pile of quilts We did this on my deck, just before it started to snow.
Fifth - Andrea and Pavel on Sunday packing quilts into a huge bag!
Sixth - just some of the goodies - not all of the items - most made by Cuties- we rolled into each of the quilts. I should have taken a photo much earlier in the process as I missed lots of items, I'm so sorry.. :-(
Seventh - a stack of medium quilts
I'll finally post parts of some of the quilts I made in projects too! Thanks for enjoying the photos with me!
I guess that's the first time I've shown my face! Can you see I have a huge bruise on my right side of my chin? I had dental surgery last Monday. I didn't realize it showed up so much. I hate to have my picture taken, and this is a fake smile. he he
You are having a quilt shower- they look so brite and colorful together. I can see Andreas and Pavels face lite up with joy.
Give big hugs to your friend Linda for all
her wonderful help.
WOW! Look at all those beautiful quilts! And wonderful toys too! I see my quilt in the bottom picture, lol! I can just see Patrick jumping up and down and all the children joining in! I see lots of joy and smiles in the near future!
Diane

Jan, Thanks for taking the time to share to take and share the pictures of the beautiful and joyful faces as well as a view of ever so colorful quilts! Hugs! ro
WOW Absolutely awesome. God Bless everyone who had a part in this huge task. A special blessing to you Jan for having coordinating this whole project. Many hands made a big project come together. I love all the pictures that you have been taking. My prayers go out to those that are now traveling for a safe journey, and for the children who are going to get something that is just for them. I know first hand how special it is to say that this is "mine" when you are living in an orphanage. a HUGE Hug to you Jan. Thanks for everything you have done. Cindy B.
This was a wonderful thing that you got together, Jan. I wish that I could have participated, but I have over extended myself and can't seem to sew my way out. Jewels in your crown.;)
It is certainly a time of celebration that this venture is meeting its goal. God Bless you Jan and all that participated. Wow! I look forward to seeing the children faces. I hope someone has a camera.
Well Done Jan. It must be such a relieve that you made the target and that they are now on their way. Just take some time out now to recover!
Thats fantastic! They will be so excited to recieve their wonderful quilts everyone sent for them.
Hugs
Diane
Glad you got your sleep caught up!Thank you for the update. It's good to know they are on their way.Pavel may want to contact the airlines and ask about the price for the extra bags. At least he'd have some idea of what they're going to charge. Just a thought! Thanks for organizing this whole project and thank you for letting me be part of it.
God bless you,
Meri
Hi Meri, The costs for extra baggage is supposed to be $60 for the first extra bag, and $150 any other bags. We sent $250 for extra baggage charges, so if he can fit everything into two bags, and into his own bag, then there would be $40 left to give Patrick for food for the orphans, otherwise, he'll have to come up with $110 more for a third bag! The weight limit is 50 pounds per bag. So, he's not going to take much for himself at all! Thank you, Meri, for being such an important part of this project! Hugs and God Bless YOU too! Jan
rick for food for the orphans. If we have to use a third bag he would have to come up with an additional $110. No bag can exceed 50 pounds. So he is taking very little for himself! Bless his heart - he is really sweet - an amazing 21 year old!
I didn't realize how exhausted I was, but I fell asleep on the couch at 9pm last night, barely got myself into bed at 11, and slept clear through till 8am and then feel right back to sleep till 9am. I slept the clock around! What a relief to have them on their way! Thank you ALL for your encouragement and your HELP in meeting this goal. We started this in January! Hugs, and yawns, Jan God Bless Pavel now, on his trip with those quilts!
I am glad you had a chance now to get some sleep. Take care of yourself.
Cindy B.
Wonderful news Jan! I'm so proud of you and all Cuties that helped with this project. A true labor of love. Hugs, Yoriko
I know it feels great to get them on the road to Uganda. I just got the projects I was working sent on their way-what a relief. Woohoo
All your goodies helped incredibly, Linda! I can't tell you how much! Thank YOU!
Wonderful!! That is awesome news. Did you ever weigh them to find out how much you sent in the end? If you didn't, I'm sure the baggage folks will for sure!! :) Do you need more for the next batch, or is that just picking up loose ends?
There were three bags full! One weighed 50 pounds and then there were two that weighed just about 35 pounds each. Pavel was going to try to pack two bags with 50 pounds each and then fit in the extras into his own bag, taking very little for himself. So we sent about 120 pounds of quilts and other goodies!
So glad that itnall came together. I hope the orphans feel all that love.
