hmm that's what she think. Wait until she gets it. She'll get hooked like all us others. lol
Hi, when I wanted to try my hand at machine embroidery I bought the Brother machine sold in Walmart, I think it was 200D, it was only $325 or so and after getting hooked I went up to the Brother 6" x 10" hoop or the 1500D. I don't know if there is cheaper than $300 for an embroidery machine. Good Luck!!
Good morning, it all depends how much money do you have to spend? There are many good machines in the market, from 300(Brother 150) 4x4 area to some that cost around 10,000 with a large emb. area Same advice as lawmeassistant go for the largest emb. area you can afford, i was like you, at first I had a 4x4 then i bought a 5x7 now i wish i could win extra money to buy one of the large emb. area machine 8x14 or larger, I love my Brother machines, i was thinking in a Viking but now i heard they are mada in China, it is not the german quality as they used to be(that what i have heard) If you can afford a Babylock or aa Bernina go for it. Good luck and remember large emb. area.
I have a Bernina 200/730, it is a sewing/embroidery machine. I am very happy with it, it takes USB sticks, can do a lot. I also have embroidery software 6 which allows me to digitise, which I am not familiar with yet. Bernina machines are good, it may cost a little more, but the quality is good." Nothing sews like a bernina, nothing" , it is their ad.
That seems a good machine to start, the usb will enable you move designs to machine down load free designs from computer to the machine, and it is well priced, Brother 770, I am thinking of buying it myself.
Good Luck with sticking with applique letters. :) My hubby bought me my brother se270d (sewing and embroidery) because I wanted just something to do little things for my grandsons - it only goes up to 4x4 - within a month I was so unhappy that I could not do bigger. Then 6 months later he bought me a Singer Futura CE150 - we thought it went up to at least 5x7 - ummmm, nope - just shy of 5x7, now I always have to reduce a design by 1 or 2 percent. And now I want to be able to go up to 8x10 or around there so that I can do jackets and all kinds of things. So buy a machine that will do as big as your budget will allow. It's frustrating to see all those beautiful designs and you can not do them. Someday I hope to have a machine that will go bigger but I don't see that in my future right now. Go bigger sweetie - you will be glad you did. :) Hugs!
Oh, that's what you think! You will get hooked just like the rest of us very soon! You will want to do all the fun stuff, not just letters, I guarantee! I have a friend that just bought the brother 770 (embroidery only) and she is NOT happy with it. The tension is messed up right out of the box, no one can get it to stitch correctly, and I thought the whole machine very user unfriendly! The hoop is especially hard to attach and remove as I has a little arthritis, and you really have to push hard. I also am not really pleased with the screen and the steps needed to move a design, etc. She is sending it back! Linda
I have a brother PE 700 II with a 5x7 hoop. I love it. The 770 has a USB port. I don't have one but I have a card writer so I download to my card and use it. It is very easy to use.

but it says it comes with a USB cable? im so confu
Well if you need 5 inch letters you will need a 5 x 7 machine, Brother has a few in the 6 - $800 range that would work, I am sure other brand names have comparables. You can get an embroidery machine only or embroidery/utlity machine. Live Laugh Download Stitch!
