You could go to: Start, then Search and type in the name of the folders and then: Search all files & folders. It may find them.
Muffy :)
thank you but I haven't lost the folders or the contents just the icons for them.
Not knowing exactly what you are dealing with. If you know where the folders are have you tried going to the folders and just highlighting them one at a time and doing a right click and then from the pop up click on create short cut. It will then send a shortcut to your desktop.
Muffy :)
what kind of software are you working with in this case, windows or embroidery software or is it a mac?
Where do the icon show up, right on the desktop first thing or do you have to push buttons first? Sorry but for an answer more details are needed so we get a hint on where to collect you 8-)
they should show up when I download a zipped design, not on the desk top when I start up just my short cut icons are there as usual. I use XP & buzz explore
Without looking at your computer, I can only guess. I need more info though. What big problem? What kind of anti-virus software do you use? What is the name of the program that makes the folders?
Sometimes with computer problems part of a software program will be erased or quarrantined (it thinks it is bad or it got infected with a real virus)
Do you have Floriani software? Did you purchase software or dowmload a free trial?
I don't have any floriani software & I have no idea what software is being used for unzipping. This problem happened once before & I managed to find the yellow folder icons again after doing goodness what. LOL but then they went again. I actually got "the blue screen of death" & the folder icons disappeared. I use buzz explore & always had the red folder icons in there I even purchased the latest 1 hoping that might have been the problem but the same thing came up.I use XP on my comp. & have AVG virus check on it. My tech rang last night to say he can't find the problem but thinks there might be a file extension missing somewhere but it's a big job finding it. As I said this comp was built for me & the guy has since moved so I really don't know what,s on the comp as far as programs go. DH did install winrar on it to see if that helped & it has slightly but I want it back to how it should be. My only other way to go is to buy a new comp. The tech also found that my C drive is actually H drive so the guy that built it has made a boo boo somewhere & the tech said this can sometimes cause problems. He can make it C drive but that means wiping everything (or saving to an external) & starting again but this will cost of course. So can anyone help please????
TIA
Irene
part2
don't know what happened but I lost my comment so I'll try again.
I actually got "the blue screen of death" & the folder icons disappeared again. I don't know what programs are on the comp. As I mentioned before this comp was built for me & the guy has since moved. I use XP & Buzz explore. I also just bought the latest version of buzz but it didn't help. DH also loaded winrar for me to see if it helped. It has slightly. The tech can't find what the problem is (I use AVG virus software) he seems to think that there's a file extension missing from somewhere but this is a big job to find it apparently also when it was built I have a H drive instead of C drive & this can cause problems so do I buy a new comp or have mine fixed? A big job to have C drive put on as everything will have to be saved to an external first.
sorry.....pt3
me & the guy has moved. I use XP & have AVG anti virus. DH loaded winrar which has helped a bit but the tech seems to think that there's a file extension missing some where.
Winrar is the current software you use to unzip compressed files. Your AVG may not be catching all the viruses. A virus has the ability to change or remove file extensions. Many viruses will try to take control of software already on your computer. Viruses also can cause the "Blue screen of death" some can even corrupt all the files on your computer. Try running a MalwareBytes or a Spybot scan. They both have free versions you can download and run manually. If you can get the it person to run spybot in safe mode.

If you can -- get the IT person to run spybot in safe mode unless you know how.
I would like to know where to get these folder icons.
I am no comp expert but you could try putting the curser on the X and hit the right button on the mouse and go to properties then to customize and fix it there. Might work!!!!!!!!!!
thanks will try that & see what happens. Am picking up comp from tech tomorrow
