I have a question too. How do you Cuties deal with friends and family who want you to share embroidery projects with them? If it's a free design Itell them where to find it, but it always seems the designs I spend a small fortune on are the ones they want me to send them. Should I just ignore the request or keep pretending I forget? What do you do? thanks for your input.

I can undertand what you mean. In my group of friends nobody is sewing, so I don't have this problem. But like one wrote : if they can by a machine, they should be abke to buy a design isn't it ? It 's like : sole people can buy such an expensive car, but then the money to install a car-kit so you can drive and call handsfree, that seems to be too expensive.
Just say no, (and that Cuties told you to do so :-)

"Oh, you know that's against copyright regulations."

I understand the law.... and the discussion but couldn't help but to wonder how many do go ahead and share their designs and are just laying low on this question.

BTW.... if a digitizer gives you permission to share it is ok.... so perhaps you could get that permission by just asking.

That is exactly what I did with designs I accidently bought twice. Asked for permission to give them away and was given that

If you are hesitating in your answer then you are not sure either. Why pretend to forget???

Ask for her credit card details and you will order it for her.. and ask to borrow her Gucci handbag to carry it in..})) Awful dilemma

You can't buy them like this either cos if sent electronicaly to you then you are the sole owner????

cfidl by cfidl 11 May 2012

Christine you are too funny. borrow her Gucci!

I don't ask period. If I can't do it on my own then I don't do it. Ask for their credit card? Oh my goodness I would never. I hope you're kidding.

If you buy another of the same set for a friend, then just write in the what you're doing in the comments box of your order, I've done that before. :) xXx

Get them to join this forum and the issue will soon rear its head as it often does, LOL. I don't have anyone who is family or close to me who does machine embroidery, other than those I've met via forums and email lists anyway, so it'd be very strange for that to happen to me. Good on you, for keeping them and yourself on the straight and narrow :) Much easier for all concerned that way!

With a smile just tell them the designs are copyrighted and cannot be shared. If you know where you got the design just tell them where it can be purchased or DL. I have this motto...if you can afford to buy a machine, you can afford to buy the designs!!!!!!. Hugs Marg

Free or not, designs are for one persons use only. Be fair to the digitisers and tell anyone who asks, to get their own before anyone gets into trouble. Jan

Most of the times I miss a friend or family member having the same passion as I for embroidery. But on the other hand I am not asked.

I have offered to purchase a design if someone is in dire need, so far no one has taken me up on it! So don't now! LLDS!

Why should they get it for free when you had to pay for it and so did everyone else who has it, Point them in the direction of the site and they can shop away. If they think it is too costly have them wait for a sale. You don't ask for theirs for free and they shouldn't ask for ones you spend your money on. Don't feel bad, just tell them you can't do it and maybe they will quit asking

Thanks, I agree with you. It's just a difficult position to be put in. I don't want to cause any hard feelings. Susan

Like the others said, you can't share designs. You will just have to tell them you can't share them as it's illegal, but they can buy it at - and them give them the info as to where they can purchase it. I'm sure they must know that since they have their own embroidery machines and are just trying and hoping you don't. They probably know that they are expensive designs and hope to get it free! Take care!

This is a touchy subject. You just have to tell them very nicely that each design is only for use by the person who bought it and tell them , "You can get yours at ---" I have had people offer me a copy of their designs and they seemed shocked that I declined. But, like tilde said, it is like shoplifting.

Shoplifting - I hadn't thought of it like that. thanks, Susan

I don't have your problem, but I'd just tell them that the designs they want are copyrighted and you cannot share with them, but that they should feel free to purchase the designs and give them the link. This won't be an easy thing to do, but if you give them the designs, it's like shoplifting. Hugs & flower to you

It's illegal in the USA, and usually is mentioned in the legal notes when you purchase (or receive a free design). Be careful...
