I have a question about uploading designs and projects. When I purchased a large amount of clipart, I did so with the understanding that I could use them without naming the artist or the company I purchased from, I just could not claim the artwork as mine. Does this site require that I name the artist and the company I purchased the artwork from (even though the company does not require it) in order to upload a design I digitized from the purchased artwork? Do I have to do that for the project upload as well? With the projects do people have to post the pattern maker and pattern number like McCall's M6334 if they post a homemade item in projects as well as the name of the digitiser that designed the embroidery?

I just don't want to break any site rules.

There are a lot more rules and concerns when posting digitized designs to DBC than posting a crafting project in Projects. We like to copy great projects so to get a head start and want to know where it came from and how you made it (if different from the norm. I personally like to know fabric, thread and stabilizer info. Live Laugh Download Stitch!

I don't think there's a "rule" about posting which pattern you used to make something but it's handy for others who might like to make something similar. ;) xXx

If the clipart company doesn't require you posting their names I wouldn't worry about it. Some do and some don't. Just check with them first.

Whew! Other than I don't have the ability to digitize, now I see why I really don't want to get into that! As for projects...some of my designs are soooo old & were free on internet, I have no clue where I got them! I have started marking where I got them now, but I really like it when a digitizer puts some info in the download as to the web site where I got it! Sometimes I forget by the time I unzip it!! Talk about senior moments!

When I started I had one folder for all downloaded designs. It was much later, after I figured out How to work my machine, before I realized I needed to know where they came from.

BTW
I heard forgetting things is not senior moments but mini vacations.

I like your mini vacations saying - will have to tell my hubby as right now I tell him he's having a "gray" moment - hehe!

I am also confused about the copyright. How is it against the default copyright on DBC to resize or change the color of threads used for a design and then post it in Projects if they give props to the digitizer?
Also, I had no idea I needed to list the name of the font and the person who created it to digitize with it. If I must do that to post finished embroidery in Projects I will have to wait until I have a lot more time on my hands...

I know it is hard and a LOT of work to digitize and I really appreciate all the effort of the Cuties who donate their time and talents. I would never steal from any one intentionally. Thanks to all for all your hard work.

Thank you to all those who reply.

I am not so sure about what is exactly the right procedures, but I would like to wish you good luck and that I look forward to see your designs here on Cuties.Hugs, Susie.

Digitiser's always give the name of the graphic artist who created the artwork, it is part and parcel of Licensing, because Artists also have Licenses, that you need to agree to, when you download free or purchased artwork.
For shareware clipart, you need just say it is from shareware clipart.
If it is from purchased clipart, you should give the name of the clipart Collection, ie: 1001 fonts or Joe Blow's 100,000 Clipart Collection
If it is hand drawn you should name the person who drew it.
If it is from a photograph, you had better have permission to use it, unless you actually took the photograph yourself. LOL!!!
If you have created text, you should give the name of the FONT and note if it is shareware or purchased, if purchased note the creator or the website you purchased it from.
If someone asks you to digitise logo's make sure you ask them for a copy of the written permission they have obtained from the business, company or sporting body, before you digitise it. This is for your own protection because YOU will be included in any legal action if they are caught doing wrong.

This is a very tricky (and complicated) business and there are some who, blatantly don't follow the rules, and never get caught, but to most of us, it isn't worth the risk.
I hope this information helps and I'm sure Ricky and Martine will be able to add even more info for you.
Hugs and roses, Meganne

Thanks for your help. I knew about the logos and about the Disney stuff... However, I have seen so many designs uploaded without any info. I double checked the design I uploaded and listed it as "purchased clipart" but if I have broken site rules, I don't know if I need to request the design be removed. What about the projects? Does all the information have to be included there too?

According to my understanding, the DBC page says you must give credit to where you got the clipart from, as Clipartopolis, etc. I don't think you must go into all the details, but you may have to. All I have ever uploaded was from my 4-D software and I always listed it. Hope someone comes along that can give you better info. Hugs, Judy
