Thanks pcteddyb.,
I've been thinking about it since & I think your method is perfect.
BTW that's my other problem., where am I going to set another machine up ...lol
I don't want to pack my overlockers away !
I'll have to do some re-arranging big time.
I don't think the 780 will do folders - I don't have it out right now to check (not enough space to have out all the time) - but I always just put the designs I wanted for the machine at the time on the stick. I store my designs on the computer and use the stick only to transfer (I have a different stick that I have for a backup of my designs on - and an external hdd too - and no risk of corrupting my transfer stick and losing things). That way I only had a few on there to pick through on the tiny screen. That method worked well for me. Even with my Quattro I don't keep everything on my transfer stick - only the things I am working on or will be soon.
Sorry, I never tried to connect it to the computer directly so I am not sure if that is possible on this model or not.
Continuing on from below…
Pcteddyb, I didn't know about the 2 gig limit with the usb stick on embroidery machines, thanks.
Mine are 4 & 8 gig :(
So I would have to transfer back to 2 gig now... hmmm.
I was interested in the usb cable from ‘laptop to machine’ also, I guess, for ease of finding a design in the first place.
I don't know how it shows up on the touch screen (if you have heaps of designs) do you just have to keep scrolling through ?
or can you select by file name or number ?
I keep my designs in folders as well, so will the emb machine read that or do you have to take them out of the folders
I hope I'm making sense.
& thanks, I probably should PM you in future, I’m probably driving the rest of the cuties mad….lol
I'm finding this interesting reading - besides if someone doesn't want to read it they don't have to - and you may be helping someone else with all your questions as you may have thought of something they didn't!
I love the USB - it means you can get a little thumb drive and copy designs to it then plug it into the machine to use them. The are found at computer stores, general stores (like target/walmart) and generally less than $15 (many times much less than that). Tell the people you want a "USB thumb drive" and they will be able to help. I would not get over a 2 gb - heard that the machines dont like any bigger than that.
The designs on the screen are black/white (i.e. not color) and sorry, are pretty darn small - but usable. I always have a printout of my design (and I do a version that has the color stops separately) and I use that more than the screen anyway. My compter is right next to my machine so I can see things there too.
Please PM if you have any other questions and I will try to help you.
Thanks again pcteddyb.
I do have a few usb drives (we call them flash drives here) so I understand that bit.
..again I'm probably going to write too much for this box, so will put it up above
I'm surprised there aren't more Brother Innovis 780D 's out there :(
I thought it had been out for a while now.
I'm such a scardy cat when it comes to making big (for me) decisions like this
... was hoping for more help., especially about the usb aspect mentioned below.
I have a 780D and I love it... it will only embroider though... Never had any problems with it, and I have had it for a few years now
That's good to hear.
Can you tell me how big the designs show up in the touch screen? Mine are very small on my 900 that's why I like to have it connected to my laptop while I sew.
I understand this machine takes a usb stick & cards.
However I guessing this means you can't hook a laptop up to the machine to be able to see the designs large and in colour while sewing ?
So my question is, could you use a double ended usb cable instead?
I sewed with mine beside my husqvarna and it performed better ,never got hot all day using it.The repair man here from brother keeps replacing parts for me if there is the least bit of question in my mind he even told me over the phone how to take it apart and grease oil it yes all machines need oil on there bearings hugs Carolyn
The 780 is newer than 750 and 780 uses a USB stick to get the designs to the machine. The 780D was my first embroidery machine. It does embroidery only - 5*7 maximum size. I put 3 million stitches on it in the first year with no issues (other than sometimes the threader got picky and I had to put the needle down and back up again then it would thread). I upgraded to a Quattro but I kept the 780 as a backup (and have pulled it out a couple of times and run both).
Thanks for the feedback. I have a question about the usb, but it probably won't fit in this little space so I'll put it up separately above.
