Oh My Gosh! I just filed all of my new designs I have collected from the past two months - what a job! Now I have 6.64 Gigabytes of embroidery files! Only 1GB is alphabets! Now this is a bit ridiculous, isn't it?! I'm sure some a duplicates, but not that many. I have been collecting/buying now for 4 years. How does my cache compare to other embroiderers?

I am in the process of going htrough my design free stuff and deleting anything I don't like. I used to collect everything when I first started but am more selective these days. I don't think I will ever sew out half of what I've got. Shirley

And I thought I had too many at 7 gb! Just designs and just in PES format, no zips. Colorcharts, if I saved them, are in a different folder. I guess I've a long way to go...LOL.

I only save the pes format too, and no txt files or jpgs, so I thought I had tons. I do have tons - I can't even imagine where all the other designs are coming from because I have had memberships at lots of places. I don't save the other formats, do you?

I love the unzipping process!
I do them once a week and it always feels like a present. Such wonderful designs to get all inspired by. Thank you to all the freebies especially from the "Cuties".
I love knitting and project PDF also.
26 gigabites and counting..
Happy computing and collecting.
Hugs Bev

I spent way too much money on designs, so I have to hold back, unless it is on sale, will never be on sale again, is more than 50% off and I love it! Well that costs $$$ every month! LOL!

I have no idea how much space, however I do have them by website, then the ones I love I put into categories. I also have many unzipped, so I work files every week.

I just looked at properties and about fainted! I have 267,954 files! I keep them on a 16g stick and have a portable HD backup. I did take every freebie in the beginning, but am more selective now, more based on quality than quanity (I hope anyway) but I don't really distinquish whether I would use it, because I do work for others and I always get odd requests. I wouldn't for example, stitch out a beaver, but a friend in Oregon wanted one as a gift for a UofO fan. Converted my beaver designs into pictures, sent her the file and she picked the one she wanted out of 8! Who needs 8 beavers? Well lucky I had them, now I have done 2 others, Orders from her gift! Never know when you might need a beaver! Linda

You just never know :-) That's what keeps me collecting!

I'm the other way. I have a collection of ducks. I am a UofO grad and send ducks to my Oregon State Univ friends as jokes. They send me beavers. Mine always say "Ducks eat Beavers" though. Aren't college rivalries great? - Aileen

Actually, I don't save any of the jpg or text files with any of my designs, to save hard drive space. I have a great viewing program, so I don't need those files. Someday I'm going to go through different files and actually dump those designs I know I won't ever stitch. But, I'll back them all up first - off of my computer - just in case - LOL Do any others here use MAC?

I have 12 gb of files (that includes the color charts, etc. in pdf too). I have been doing ME about 2.5 years - and, like others, I got a bunch of stuff in the beginning that I would never use now. I have become much more picky about what I buy and what I grab as a freebie.

Keep those files straight - you will be happy you did.

I only have 3.5GB. I've spent too much time making a picture file to go along with each design. Early on I decided to quit printing them and just enjoy them electronically. Yes, I can tell where every design I have is from. I would prefer a cross filing system of folders by subject and another by design site. I, too, have some that I wonder if I'll ever use but they are part of the collection! Ha!

I've only had my embroidery machine for 12 months, so I'm a relative newbie.,
but I have managed to collect hundreds of designs already !!!!!!

At first I just put them all in a folder (unzipped) then I realised what a disaster that was.
So now I try to unzip every couple of days and file them into catagories &.... back them up on a flash drive/thumb drive.
And now I'm learning to digitize.

You've been going great for your first year, Kitty. You've set yourself up very well for success, I think!

Thanks Marianne,
I'm loving it... working on my second design now.

Unfortunately, I didn't set up a way to remember where I got each design. But they are all sorted into categories and named so I can find them at least. I wish I hadn't wasted my time in the beginning downloading some of the junkier designs. I realized later that I bought some fonts that were actually free.

Worth mentioning, Jan, to help newbies organise themselves from the start! I usually use an underscore then the site name (or abbreviation of), after the design name, as I 'save as', so that I can go back or refer others to where I got things from :)

Well I am still trying to resort my designs since I had to relaod them all in Feb/March when I lost them all. Am doing 2 ways. Digitiser/website. Then filling into Catogories.
It is never ending.
Been collecting designs for about 8 years now.

Wow, Yvonne, you must have tons by now :-) I wish I had noted which websites each came from.

I bet I run a close race with you, Jan, on the number of designs I've collected, too!! I spent most of yesterday sorting and organizing the designs I have purchased from Embroidery Library into categories. Yes, I'm a bit "slow" on using the computer, but still, it speaks volumes of my collection "addiction" to take that long! I have been buying/collecting for about six years, but I made a promise to myself a few weeks ago to QUIT buying designs, and to ONLY download a freebie that is absolutely unique/special! Now, to stick with the "12 Step Program"!!!!!! LOL
Hugs, Angel

I know what you mean, Angel. How many hearts, butterflies, angels, Santas, do I really need to chose from - LOL. Unless there is something unique, I need to leave it alone and not add it to my files. Just choosing a design to sew can take too long :-) I say that and then I go look at the sales. Duh!

Well done :) I have no idea how many I have but I try to file as I go. Well, I put them in their categorised folders but put off unzipping and properly filing lol so no idea how many I have. It's an addiction I'm sure :) xXx

Mine is over 8 gigabytes. but I have a fair few which I bought when I just started and if I look at them now I think Why ever did I buy those they are so badly designed! and I will only use those after I have worked on them myself! I have to say I buy less and less and do not collect all freebies any more. I seem to design more and more myself. Lace is the one I am still buy! Maybe one day I will be able to design that as well

Wow Lique, that is even more than I have. Do you ever delete some? I have a hard time doing it, but I ask myself, will I ever stitch this, and if the answer is no, I TRY to delete. Why is it so hard? Isn't it fun being able to digitize what you need
