Look what can be done to garbage. Every bit of this quilt was thrown out by someone. I rescued the pieces and put them together. The denim squares have embroidery to cover up the holes or stains. The crazy patches come from scraps left from a nearby sewing business garbage can. Most of the denim was in free boxes or garbage bags at the local senior center thrift store. I believe there is still use in a lot of stuff we throw away.

Thank you. I originally started making these for the children's hospital, but the hospital won't take them because some of the fabric has been clothes. Sad, huh?

What a wonderful way to use up "pre-loved" pieces of fabric. It's a great idea Deanna and I think you might have started something amongst the rest of the Cuties on here.

It is beautiful, so colourful and beautifully made. Love and blessings C

I love making these kinds of quilts...In some ways they become more a part of you than some of the ones that are planned and fixed so precise. One of our challenges in our quilt guild was to make a quilt out of things you would normally throw away and it became one our all time favorites...
You did a great job with this one...keep it up...

I too, believe that we are living in a disposable age. People don't take care of things and instead of fixing or repairing, just throw out and get a new one. I like recycling, and this is the perfect example of it. Thanks for showing us and for doing such an excellent job. What is on the reverse side?

You are completely right, that is my opinion, too. My grandmother said always :
Don´t throw away today , what you will need tomorrow :)

justonlyme by justonlyme 03 Jun 2012

To watch good stuff getting thrown away just hurts! The back is a piece of brushed denim...that was in the garbage can at a Goodwill store. It was still on the bolt. And was exactly the right size for this project.

toogie by toogie 03 Jun 2012

Lucky you! Right place at the right time.I asked a question in Comm. about what to do with all my denim. My grandson, 19, saw the quilts that were done and now wants to start saving his old jeans, for me to make him a quilt. So now it is teaching him not to throw away.

toogie by toogie 03 Jun 2012

throw away.

Beautiful - I love what you've done! That's the way I think of "garbage". I have a couple of boxes of scraps and keep saying "don't throw that out - it can be of use". Part of it is just getting the imagination going, but once you start, your hands can't work as fast as your brain!
Wonderful job!

justonlyme by justonlyme 03 Jun 2012

Thank you! Isn't that the truth!! Once you get started, then the scraps get used up in a hurry. And then the "crumbs" go in to critter beds for the local Humane Society. No waste.
