Here's a question... if you make a tracing of a design then use the tracing to digitize is it still considered from the original picture or art work? I wanted the Chinese character for wealth so traced the character from a Chinese information web site. What do you think?

132773I think you would be ok to do that, no matter where you got the character. No different than tracing any of the alphabet from any language. Alphabets and words can't be copyrighted. Go for it and we want to see the project you put it on.

16707That is a very interesting ?? Do the Chinese characters have diferent fonts the way we do? I somehow don't think so. I would say it's just fine to use it.

I don't know about 'typed' fonts but most lettering is done in calligraphy style so that each person has their own penmanship. Thanks!

Thanks Helen but I was looking for a freebie and got the idea to just trace the symbol then scan it and save as a .jpg! this is why I asked the question.
39739I personally don't think that would be a huge problem, because the Chinese character is somewhat akin to us writing a word in our language. But that is my own opinion.

I don't think it would be any more than tracing a letter from our alpha and digitizing it..you are going to be doing the digitizing so you are not stealing..it's just a word--like in our vocabulary. I say you are ok--go for it!
