WOOHOO! Today I went to get my prescription support stockings and I've worn them all day. They're not very fashionable and I can't embroider them to make them more attractive, so if I have to wear these granny stockings for three months they had better fix my legs. LOL!!!

Anyone have suggestions how to pretty them up or do I just wear trousers the whole time?

Due to severe burns a friend had to wear support tights fot two years. The only time she didnt wear them was when she was in the bath. Good luck with the three months and you are lucky as its your winter. Knowing you Meganne you will find a way to decorate your support stockings. Let us know what you so to them

Are they the compression stockings with 2 layers? That is what I have to wear. I have poorcirculation and the blood with go down but fight to get up past the valves. I spend alot of time in bed with my leegs propped up on pillows to cut down on the awful swelling. Once is swells so big, the skin will tear open and I am fighting to get yet another wound healed. This last one got down to a place the size of two fingers together and the next week was 3 times that large. I am on antibiotics again! This has been going on since I had surgery on my legs in 2005. There is no way to stop it. My Dr is now giving me the devil about my knees. They want to do surgery and replace my knees. I do not see that happening! everytime I have had surgery it has cause worse problems that the original situation. I am 65 now and I had the first surgery on my legs when I 25. I came out of the hosp. in a week and rode my motocycle in the snow the next day. I had surgery at 31 and was eating aspirin from the drugstore trying to keep my temp down long enough to get dimissed. I had been there a week. The last one nearly killed me and I can not walk without help now. No more surgery as far as I am concerned!

My hospital time the 3rd time was a month in the hospital and over 8 months in a nursing home at 57. My life has been very complicated since then and I never get to go anywhere. I stay at home with my Pekingese and all of the rest of my family takes off without me! They usually do not even tell me they are planning something.

without me. They usually do not even tell me they are going. They are afraid they may have to slow down some because of me.

Oh Linda, I do so empathise with you. I have to stay in bed until the swelling goes down but I also think that the lack of movement makes my legs worse so I get up and persevere with it. The stockings are helping so time will tell, thankfully it is winter. Hugs n love

I was thinking put some fringe on them and then the cats could play at the same time. lol
Bev
Just joking of course! Just keep thinking they are good for you no matter how they look.

Well............. this might sound silly but here goes......

Embellished clothing is all the rage this year.

How about making some little FSL butterflies and then just hand stitching the bodies (two or three stitches) onto the stockings. Little butterflies up the outside of the legs in a gentle curve would look pretty. Then you could undo the stitching before washing the stockings.
People will either like them or have something to talk about for a while.

Would I wear them?????? Yep!!!!!

I'm not sure about putting a needle through $99 stockings, what if they laddered. YIKES! :-)

Soft fabric paint would be fun! The 3d paints would limit movement of the fabric, but the softer paints would do well. Also, you could dye them! Hmmm....tie dyed support stockings. I love it!

I have fabric paint but it has to be heat set and I think that would burn them.
I might try a texta colour though. hugs n thanks, Meg

Ok, where's the pic of those legs of yours? You always like to share...lol. Hate that you're having to wear the stockings but hopefully they'll do the job they were intended to do. To dress them up a little why not sew up some fsl or something using tulle as your fabric and spraying one side with 505 attaching to your stocking that way you could have a different design and/or color each and every day.
Take care and wear em! Hugs Sis

Yes Joyce they DO work, but such a nuisance having to wash and dry them every night. I hope I won't have to wear them come summer as I nearly passed out wearing them to bowling when I got too hot. Hugs, Meg

Some good ideas with fabric paint and markers, I would just be thankful it is winter now, because they would be a nightmare in an Aussie summer.

If you need them then you'll have to wear them, pretty or not. I'd wear pants with them though. They might not look good with shorts.

What if you take fabric markers and draw designs on them? The markers are permanent. Just another idea. Hugs Susan Let's hope they work.

Have you heard of the movie "Happy Feet" well you could draw a penguin and name the stockings "Happy Legs". (Only joking). LOL. hugs Marg

You could do the layered look and wear fish net stockings or something else over them. If they solve the problem and make you feel good it really doesn't matter how they look. You could think of them as little energizers for your legs.

Meg my daughter is in the boat with you, she too has now got to start wearing them on just 1 leg for 3 months and they are going to do surgery. she dreads it because these Alabama summers are hhhoooottt and humid./Lillian

You should draw on them so that it looks like you have tatooed your legs. You will then be one hip mamma!

Meg, can you fabric paint on them or glue crystals on them? My hubby just had to start wearing them... LOL!! He looks so pretty...HA! I told him I was going to get him some spike heels to wear with them.....he is having knee pain and the Doc prescribed them for now....I got a great deal on internet for them....

I had to wear TET hose (something about the name was so silly) when I had knee/hip replacement surgery. Only 6 weeks, but seemed forever. DGD's decorated mine with fabric pens...sort of like signing a cast! They washed ok, but the best ones were drawn while I was wearing them, then they were stretched out and looked better than the ones that were drawn on the the table and then stretched! Have fun with them...you will feel so much better knowing you wore them when you were supposed to! Just a word of advise, I got 3 pair, one to wear, one in the wash and one ready to wear! I hated having to sit around waiting for the darn things to hang dry (dryer not recommended). Linda
