An erasable roller ball

Wouldn't it be great if we quilters could have a roller ball marker that comes in several colours that was easily erasable?
well we actually do have one. its called a
"Frixion erasable roller ball"
you use it like a normal roller ball but when you wish to remove the markings you simply iron it and it disappears.
In the UK they can be found in Tescos in packs of three coloures and two different sizes 0.3mm and 0.7mm.
if your fa bric is too delicate to place an iron on it then simply rub rapidy with the end stub of the pen over the ink mark and it will generate suficiant to cause the erasable action to occur.
i found this to be a great asset when using templates to guide your stitching and decorating the blocks.
price is around £6.50 per pack but i find it easier than using chalks.

I would like to tell the South African Cuties that I bought one of these pens this morning at CNA. Looking forward to trying it out on material. It writes beautifully and is easy to erase on paper. Thank you Annie for bringing these pens to our attention. Sarah.

I use these - got a package of them from Amazon in multiple colors - it is really neat - you mark, and iron it away. They are by Pilot - and love them.

I just read a review on these through Amazon.com. Someone had bought it for quilting. She said that it washes out, works great on light fabrics, but on dark, leaves a white line. Also, you cannot leave your work on the car or use in real hot weather, and if the item freezes, then the mark comes back. I think it is worth giving them a try!!

Good to know. Thank you!

I stopped using them when i found that it leaves a brown mark,if not ironed soon after marking. I used lemon and salt,it does help but you can still see the lines. It is very hard to find the perfect marker.

In US most office supply stores carry them. I have used them before, and read some other forum comments. Be aware! If you live in a really, really cold climate, the marks come back! The heat does make them "disappear" or you can erase, but the chemical is still in the fabric, and several folks noted that they could see the colored lines in the cold weather. Might not be significant, just sayin'! Linda

Do they go away with the heat of the wash (if some of us forget to erase)? This sounds very interesting. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

I picked up some a while back in Staples (in the UK) so maybe stationers in general might have them? They work brilliantly - picked up a pink and blue for myself, and red and purple for my friend who is a Red Hatter! Think they were around £1 each.

Have just returned from overseas. Wish I had known this as I would have bought some from Tesco. Does anyone know if we can get the same thing in SA. Sarah.

They have these in US too - they are the greatest thing around - better than anything else I have tried! They are made by "PILOT" (who makes lots of pens and things). Right now they come in red, blue, black but I heard they are working on an opaque version so could be a white down the road (which would be great for dark fabrics).
