These are great placemats. Looking forward to seeing the quilt.
this is where the idea came from
the diamieter of the circle is aprox 7.25 and the square is aprox 5.00. I unpicked the side seams of the jeans and pressed them and then cut away the rear pockets, these will be used in another project when i have enough of them to join together to make a holder for those bits and pieces i use when sewing it wil hang up on a coat hanger but that as they say is another story.
the circles were cut out first and then the squares marked in but for the main quilt i will make a template from plastic and put holes in so i can mark each one exactly the same. then join the dots useing a rule and a permanant marker on the "wrong side". You decide if you wish the dark side of the denim to be the main colour or the lightside this will not be seen once the edge is turned over and stitched in place.
I used small pegs to hold things in place but pins are fine too.
an alternative to zigzag stitching the curves, is simply to use a close straight stitch at aprox 1/4 inch from the edge and then let it fray for a fringed look. You could of course use a decorative stitch. Useing a varigated or very bright colour in the bobbin will give the reverse side a nice look too
Thank you to those who bought this method of creating Cathederal windows to my fertile imagination. annie in the uk
Nice, I will make one sooner or later. You got 16 squares out of 1 pair, what size are your squares?-Toogie
