Good advice for internet safety:

Don’t use the links in an email to visit sites you enter with passwords. Don’t give out personal information on searchable (by Google and other search engines) web sites. The information to access bank accounts can be gathered by diligent people. Retired people and those with money to buy expensive machines usually have good credit. If you give them your name, hometown, your husband’s name, you mother’s name, your dog’s name or the amount of item you will be on vacation…you may be in for some theft and heartache.
Remember on all site with comment threads, don’t feed the trolls!
They have no life and post thinks to cause fights.

I never thought about connecting to links to our embroidery sites through their e-mails being a "no-no"...if that's not okay, is it okay to link to these sites from the freebie posts here? Just asking, not sure I understand the difference between linking from my e-mail being potentially harmful...and linking from here? Anyone clear this up for me? Thanks, Cuties!

When someone like your bank sends an email, if you use the links and enter your password -- you MAY be giving your password to bad guys who spoof (pretend) to be your bank. It is always safest to go to your site by typing it in the address bar.

So if I spoof your bank, my email will look like it comes from your bank. I hope that helps.
It is safe to use the links here since you can see where the link is going to take you. In an email that isn't always true.

Got it...thanks. I thought it referred to, say an e-mail from, say, Cute Alphabets or something like that, so if you clicked on the link to go to their site and signed in it would be a problem....silly me, but better safe than sorry...

If you can hoover over the link and SEE that it takes you to the right site then it should be safe especially if you have different passwords for different places. I never do it from a financial place though.

Viruses are getting so tricky. I got one at AppliqueHut when all I did was go to the site...I did not even download anything. Remember, just because your virus detection program did not warn you, that doesn't mean it's not there, or now on your computer to rear it's ugly head later.

I got one recently just by visiting a site. My anti-virus warned me but I couldn't exit fast enough and ended up with a bad one. Even with all the tools I have it still took 10 hours of work to remove it.

Sometimes I wish I could edit after I post so the misspelled words could be corrected. I am sure when it is put into a translator it doesn't make any sense.
I meant the "amount of time you will be on vacation"
And -- Trolls post things not thinks but they do post things that they think are true but are not true. Most of the time they are just looking for a fight. So if a comment or post looks like it is wrong, you must decide if they are just misinformed or if they are looking to be the center of attention and ruffle feathers.
Also, THIS site is searchable. Everything posted (except in "Private") is searchable on Google etc. Be careful Cuties.

Very good advise. Often one gets those e-mails asking all kinds of questions like favorite color etc. Usually from a friend meaning no harm but we forget how easily those can be found and than used.
