I agree, I am farely new to computers and just find all the different forums give so much junk
I don't do Facebook either. I don't want everyone and their dog to know my personal business. I think what annoys me most is when there is a contest giveaway, and the ONLY way to enter the sweepstakes is through Facebook. Supposedly, 40% of the population refuses to join Facebook.
I don't do facebook ,twitter etc ,too easy for the hackers to get your details ,so I miss out on things which I probably not really interested in any way..When signing up for free designs or newsletters ,I often use made up info using a special separate email address if the site seems suspicious .The amount of spam that appears in this emails spam box is amazing ,lately its from casinos & other gambling sites mainly from US before it was for viagra & the likes
No Face Book or Twitter for me, or any of the other such site.............. and when I hear on the TV News about politicians tweeting on Twitter ... well, it just doesn't seem to me to be all that dignified.
What happens to me?? Well, it seems that I miss out on a lot of embroidery designs and sewing hints that I might like but might or might not want or use. Otherwise it doesn't worry me one iota.
The daily junkmail increases without any effort on my part.
BTW... how is it that I regularly get 'invites' from people I've never heard about, claiming to be my 'friends', to join Facebook - where does Facebook get my name and email address to let me know about these so-called friends who are supposed to be trying to contact me????
I'm old and comfortable enough with me now to enjoy just being me, keeping my business to myself and choosing those people with whom I'd like to keep contact.
Despite the cost of postage a letter is so nice to receive, a phone call is quick and personal, an email can convey all I need to say to special friends, none of my business needs to be made public unless I choose to take that path and I'm beginning to think that progress in communication hasn't been all that kind since it left the post office.
Confounded soapbox!! It gets higher every year!!!!!
AlmaG.
There are companies that 'sell' your name, phone number and email to others. It is a real scam out there.
hugs Helen
Just too old for Facebook, it's useless, complicated, and everybody wants you to play some game or other. I got sucked into signing up once by a friend who said she found all sorts of old high school buddies & stuff. That might have been neat, but all the junk & stupid posts about people I don't even know was totally unruly. My computer is for working with, not playing games.
As for the mail from embroidery sites, I have an account I use for that stuff exclusively. If I don't get there for weeks, who cares, I have 600 mails unread. I don't give them my "real" e-mail address. Much easier. There isn't a free design, or purchased one for that matter, that's worth signing into Facebook for. Hugs, Marji
I'm not a member of facebook either and I'm sure I miss out-its the privacy issue for me.
My FB link has an extra 's' added for security:https://www.facebook.com.
Hugs Helen
Me -as an IT'er- I do not have a facebook account. Too much personal info gets on it, with that system of friends of friends of friends,.. there were sayings that my company screens these sites before hire-ing people. If they see to many "party pictures" they don't hire. Also once we had a problem that someone claimed to be sick, while on the internet there where pictures of that person at a party. (? how stupid can you be yourself ?) but also this is not a violation of privacy, 'cos you share yourself you pictures to your friends, and that persons shares this pictures to his friends,...
Be carefull !
No FB for me either. I have my hands full already. If I want to stay in touch with my friends, I pick up the phone. As far as emails go, most businesses have an "unsuscribe" link at the bottom of the mail. So I use it. For the others, I block the mail address or identify it as spam.
You are so correct! I do not even look through my emails anymore. They are competing for our dollars so it is very important for them. I understand, however it has changed my behavior. Live Laugh Download Stitch!
Somethings are not worth the hassle, and getting a freebie from FACEBOOK is one of them.
I. personally don't like going to facebook. I just rather stay with my cutie friends, who are my family. ****
I can't stand facebook, it is so complicated and I receive an email for every little thing that happens, I had to delete over 600 emails. For the life of me I can't figure out how to cancel these notification emails.
Then there are the invitations to provide people with information and when you try to reply it wants you to sign up for some AP? I'm afraid I just don't accept all this so I cancel out of it.
So if YOU are one of those people who have asked for my birthday or sent me invitations to join something or other, I apologise, but I don't have time or interest in joining things that I don't know what they are. I don't play games on my computer, it is for digitising and talking to my Cute family at Cute. Facebook is just too intrusive and confusing.
The only reason I even joined it was because of, well actually I don't remember why I joined it. LOL!!!
Meganne, I have cancelled all the apps and notifications on my FB page. I do have a FB for Traditional Celebrations to drum up some business though. In the initial stages and that has not real personal stuff on it. hugs Helen
I will not join facebook and it a site wants to have everything on facebook, then I don't do business with them. * to all who aren't members of facebook.
I too agree! they want to inconvenience us, & I am not a fan. It takes alot of time & it seems like a big waste of time what can you learn there
When they say go to facebook I just delite their site I do not use it and don't plan to my husband does and he stays in trouble with me all time he also got his email hacked in to ,had to change all pass words it is a dangerous site One lady got her house robed because she posted that she was going on vacation.
I agree with all of you whom will not sign up for Facebook and Twitter. Who has all that time? I'd rather stay with Cute and use the rest of my time to embroider.
If Facebook & Twitter fell off the earth today, I would not miss them. I'm so sick of seeing "LIKE US", and "FOLLOW US"--- even our tv stations are telling us to like them on the site. Special offers you can only get if you sign in to Facebook. I think that's discrimination..like 'only Facebook members can have this'. Well, they can keep all the free stuff & coupons & etc. I will NEVER!
So true, Designsbysick are doing it too, if you want the runnerup for the daily freebie. hugs Helen
I would let you know that you can still get the runner up daily freebie without belonging to facebook - go to the forums and find out how on the thread for the unofficial wish-list.
I am also NOT a part of facebook. I do not trust it. The embroidery sites are losing a lot of customers who do not belong as far as I am concerned. It is sad to see. Suzanne
Its the invasion of privacy that worries me, I have not joined, maybe an age thing? but if only facebook its not for me
I was hacked on Facebook and the problems to get back in are impossible. Even my secret question does not work. I cannot get in there at all and am Really not all that unhappy with this. I agree that it is very sad and quite disturbing that we are being directed into there like little children !
I refuse to join Facebook so those sites miss out on my membership and sales. Hugs Joyce
I'm with you. I'm 'like' LOL a conscientious objector to FB :) Have enough to deal with now and don't need another possible invasion of privacy either.
I am VERY careful about my information and do worry about hackers getting childrens photos off the site for horrible reasons.....We were warned NOT to post to facebook via mibile phones for that very reason but there are people who do not listen to this.:)
hugs
Helen
I love Facebook!
I do use facebook. It keeps me in contact with all my family members spread all over the world. I also have a Marriage Celebrant page, but people are not disadvantaged by not belonging to my pages as some are for embroidery sites.
:)
hugs Helen
I don't want a Facebook ID and never will. Their website should be enough, why see them again on another site? Even when a digitizer offers freebies on another site, I won't visit. Never mind if I lose freebies, I have so many of them already. There are so many websites to visit already and my time and patience are limited. No offence to anybody. Hugs, Lidia
I don't like the facebook/yahoo accounts either. I don't mind going to the different websites, but ----. I'm just not comfortable or feel safe on these sites.
I totally agree with you! I used to have a FB account, but got really tired of "Like". It's so juvenile! Facebook was originally designed for college students to keep up with each other. I think businesses should not be on FB.
i agree, I have a FB account, but I use it to stay in touch with family. I don't want ads, etc.
