Now if I can just convience my kids & grandkids that no matter if their social media pages are for friends only, there IS a way around it. I've given up on trying! Just watch what I post!
Reading through a post, I noticed Cuties were posting their birthday including the year. NEVER put the year you were born or your age if you EVER list your birthday on an open forum.
Never put your full name on an open forum.
Thank you Cuties for the flowers and the comments. I hope this helps everyone think about what they are posting before they post.
Yes, in fact, potential employers are now using this "tool" to research job applicants. So you have to mind your manners online or it will come back to haunt. Also, it is a wonderful tool for stalkers, and anyone wanting to gather personal information.
Also, NEVER post online anyplace that you are going on vacation.
recently I got an email that was very suspect! I didn't open it, but it was addressed to Vickiannette [I never use this anywhere except on a couple of the sewing sites]
That pic is wonderful! So true with the comments-It is truly alarming with the advent of all the cybering that "Big Brother", present or future employers, general public, grocery stores, information services, etc even potential bad guys can find out almost anything they want to know about you-whether you want them to or not!People would be shocked at all the info about them out there they didn't know about, so YES-Be very careful about what you say and make sure you wouldn't mind seeing it back in print from somewhere else. :-)
Yes I agree, I never post anything that I want the whole world to see as it can lead to trouble and who wants everyone to know all their personnel business.
Quite agree, and this needs to stay at the top for a while so everybody can read it and truly understand it. Thanks for the good explanation! Hugs, Marji
I absolutely agree. Also one does not have to be a member in order to read all the posts. If one was determined to find out about a persons like and dislikes it would be easy to follow certain posts and accumulate a wealth of info. I never forward or reply to those e-mails that ask you questions like do you like coffe, tea or milk. What was the last movie you watched etc. The sender usually says they want to know you better and often they don't even clean all the accumulated e-mail adresses out of their forward.
This is so true!
Anyone with the internet can read any of the posts.
Never answer qestions online like the name of your dog, your mother's maiden name, your birthdate (year) or the name of your bank.
Oops I already goofed. Everyone knows the name of my dog here at cute, but I would never use her name as a password. :)
Important places like banks and phone companies often ask for the name of your dog to set up a way for you to change your password if needed. It isn't a goof if you use the name of a different dog. ;)
You are so right. I don't like the way some baddies make use of other people's situations to get at them, so let us all be vigilant and careful out there (or here) for that matter. Have a lovely and safe day all cuties.Lovies.
Yes, that's why I never write anything about my situation or my family here or on Facebook - I am posting only what is important about what I'm doing - namely, sewing/embroidery - one comes to no other but me and my family.
Hugs, SigrĂșn
That's why I don't use the same nickname on all pages where you have to register. This is also the reason why I'm still not on facebook :o(
Greetings, Bettina
You are absolutely correct, it is better to be circumspect because there is no privacy on the net.
