I think the 5 million is about right unless there is a problem. I think I have passed that and still have no plans to take mine in. I do not want to be without it!

When I have a problem I take it straight away - otherwise once a year for a good service. I oil and clean my machine according to their instructions. Bernina in Durban North has always given me exceptional service. Never a problem hat they cannot solve.***

Thank you all for your answers, I have had my first one a year and a half, my other is eight months . so i think I will leave a little bit longer and have them both done together. Very interesting stuff though..

I had a Janome Memory 7 for over 30 yrs (it's still going - DIL has it) and it had the first yearly free servicing and that was all - I cleaned it myself. Now that I have an emb./sewing machine, I took it in for it's free servicing and a few months later was at the dealers and happened to talk to the repairman and he said as long as I clean and oil(apparently lots of people don't and leave that to him) - then no problem, just bring it in whenever I feel I need to have it looked at.

A lot depends on your machine. My machine's timing can get off, parts do wear out, things I can't fix. I take mine in once a year and it always runs smoother and quieter when I get it home. If it starts making a "funny" noise, I tape record the noise and take it in right away.

I have had my machine for six years and never taken it in to be serviced. I know that is bad bad bad but it hums along like the day I bought it and I know when a service tech gets it all apart it'll never be the same again. Guess I just don't trust the repair guys to really know what they are doing.

Well I should be ashamed but I clean it myself. Hey I have had my Janome over 15 years and had to take it in for service 1 time (last year) to have it recalabrated. Cost 100.00. Came back the same. Looked up how to do it and tried it. Well it worked.

I am sure my reply is unique and unrealistic, but my Brother PC8500D has never been to a shop for maintenance in the years since it was purchased, probably 8 years ago. I have done occasional cleaning of the gears, when a stray thread got wrapped, and the bobbin area for dust and thread bits, but other than that, just happily stitching along. I guess this speaks well for Brother products, and I must have got a quality one! If I had had any constant issue, and unable to stitch with it, then certainly, I would have taken it for service, but, fortunately, none of that happened.

If I were using it every day or every other day I would take it in about once a year... or year and a half...Otherwise, I take it when I have a problem.

I use my machines almost every day. I take them in once a year for service, unless there is a problem, then they go in right away. Hugs, Mary
