Congratulations on the new machine. Strange it did not come with it's own USB stick to get you started.
Wonderful! According to my Viking dealer, a 1g or 2g is the largest you should use. There is some technical reason, about drivers, but doesn't matter I just do as I am told. Now, I happen to have 2 1g sticks that I change out when I want to load some while the machine is stitching away. There is no reason to have a whole collection, though. If you store your designs on a large stick (I never cut and paste, just copy and paste from large stick to the small 1g stick) and use the 1g in the machine. Then delete them from the 1g when you are finished (I usually stitch for a week or so, then clear the stick). Just reload and go when you need to. Not meant to "keep" them on the 1g, just use and toss out... they are stored on that big stick! Don't pay big bucks for that 1g stick at a dealer ($25 and up) go on-line or look at Radio Shack, etc. Best Buy no longer carries them.
I tried to load from designs that I have on a 16g, but my machine said that there were too many designs to choose from. These designs I have stored on my External as well so deleted all and just loaded the few that I wanted and this worked.
Not the best idea to use 16g, even if it does work. 1g has less hidden info, drivers, etc. and that is the issue. I would look for a 1g and just keep deleting and reloading as needed.
good news Lyn, however you may find it difficult to buy a small flash drive. The small ones are now 4GB, but it won't matter. They are fairly inexpensive now.
I have just bought 3 x 2gb over ebay from Hong Kong at $3,84 each with free postage. Just have to wait for them, but I have a larger USB stick that with just a few patterns is working till then.
I order my 1GB USB drives from Amazon..very inexpensive there and there are oodles to choose from so you can get a different kind for different designs.
Mine are all black, but will only use these to transfer from Computer to machine.
Still waiting to hear which model you got lyn?
.... hmmm... maybe she's too busy stitching.. Haa ha
Wow... lovely. I just had a look on the net.
It says the contents included usb cable.
but the usb stick is an optional extra.
Having said that, I models get updated so quickly, sometimes features change,.
My original brother came with cable, but the latest, of the same model, have no spot for cable, only usb.
It's all so confusing, plus sometimes it depends which country gets which models IYKWIM.
a usb cable, but the latest version of the same model doesn't have a spot for cable to plug in, only usb stick.
and different countries sometimes get different models of the same machine.
Oh., & just about everywhere sells them lyn., newsagents/post offices/target/officeworks etc etc.
Have fun at lace class... Hugs kitty
Congratulations! So happy for you after all you went through. Happy sewing!! Hugs, Marji
Funny some attachments seem as though they are not the same quality as my old one. Might just be my imagination thgough.
Whoo Hoo- that was a relatively short gestation period.;)
If you have a 4gb stick, just empty it if it isn't, load what you want.
I'm lucky - I have a direct link cable from my laptop to my machine so I have never used to capability of the usb and I also have quite a few built in designs for each of the hoop sizes as well.
Hope you find a stick real quick so you can test run your new baby - good luck!
No all of mine are 8 or 16gb. Will also look for a long male to male cable as my machine is too far from my computer.
My machines did not come with a USB either. They are relatively inexpensive and you can get them most everywhere these days - even drug and grocery stores. I have a stick that I use only for transferring designs to the machine - so I only have a few on there at any one time - really helpful for my 780D where the screen is pretty tiny.
I have 3 USB sticks but they are too big and have too many designs on them. I will go to the shops today and spend tomorrow sewing.
Congratulations Lyn. Looking forward to seeing some work in projects. Shirley
Congratulations, Lyn! When I bought my Husqvarna-Viking Topaz 30, it came complete with a 1GB memory stick and in it there were many free designs. It may not be easy to find 1GB or 2 GB sticks, but you can use a larger one. I have used a 64GB and a 32GB sticks and they worked as well, just do not overload the memory sticks with more than 1 GB of files. Hugs, Lidia
I have deleted all from my 16gb as they were doubles which I already have on an external now. This worked but I will buy a 1 or 2 gb stick
Congratulations Lyn, enjoy your new baby.
My newer machine doesn't have any way to load designs except USB stick and didn't come with one either. I was told that anything larger than 2gb would confuse it. I couldn't find anything smaller than 4gb in the shops so I asked all family and friends if they had any old small ones to donate and now have a collection of 5 or 6. My 128mb usb is about half full and has at least 50 designs on it. Maybe someone in your family has a small one that they don't use any more, no harm in asking. Cheers, Bev.
Bev, I will go to the shops on way to Lace classes today but if I can't get one there I have seen some on ebay.
Hy Lin, that´s good news. My husband just called and said my baby was also already in the post office. I hope she has survived the journey and arrived without any damage. I can not wait for the weekend to test and I'm curious to see if this works well
Congrats Lyn - you should have a USB stick in a little packet inside your sewing machine. I can't believe that there wouldn't be one included. I, like Sue would keep looking and check with the place you bought it from. Looking forward to some of your new work in the Projects section. Love and blessings Chris
Keep searching - we don't want you to have to wait another two days!
Why not take the designs off one of your memory sticks onto your computer so you have an empty one to use?
Congratulations Lyn.... you haven't said which model you ended up getting ?????
BTW.. my new brother (bought last week) didn't come with a USB stick either.
Have fun with it.... I know you will :)
hugs kitty
No it didn't meganne.
My first brother came with the usb cable., but this latest model didn't :(
Have fun with your new baby and may you both have many happy hours stitching. (When you are able to get started...)
WooHOO!!! Congratulations! Doing the two step happy dance for you. :-)
Martine is correct, it should come with a USB stick, or a Computer direct link cable, because you can't upload designs without one or the other.
Lyn, I would go online and see what the manufacturer includes with the machine then I would phone the shop and ask about it and please don't let them put anything over you, OK?
Hugs n love, Meg
Yes I thought it was time she made a comeback, pity we lost our animated gif avatars. :-(
Have had a look in my book and there is no mention of a USB stick. Wouldn't be the shops fault as it was still all boxed up as it had only arrived an hr or so before. When I pick up my other machine I will mention the USB or cable so they can pass it onto Brother.
Yeah! You will be stitchin' really soon on a brand new machine. Have Fun! Happy Stichin!
