Well here it is almost the end of June and I am going to be glad to see the end of it.

As some of you know,I was getting new counter tops and tile, new sink, and new induction cooktop.I was really excited for my kitchen make over.DH and I spent days removing wallpaper, painting, and re doing window casings and sills. It was a BIG job. Then came the day that the countertops were to be installed.About half way through the job we got a call that my MIL had passed away.(she was 96)The funeral was to be in a week from then,so the installers finished the counter tops and put in the cooktop and sink. The tile would have to wait. Before we were to leave DH had a hospital appt. for a procedure on his ear, wich HAD to be done. The next day we lost our computer. We had been having server problems for a while and thought that was why it was so slow.WRONG! Well there was no time to get a new computer and have it installed etc. so that had to wait.We got our dog sent to camp the day before DH's procedure and left for our 1300k trip. This takes us 2 days at about 8hrs. a day driving. I don't drive so it is harder on DH. It rained solid and very heavy the whole way...with thunder and lightning and wind. We had to stay in hotels on the way and when we got there. The day after the funeral we started back home. It was the same weather conditions with the exception of a few hrs. the first morning. Another 1300k's and we were home. The next day we picked up our dog and rested. The next day we got the new computer, and the next day the tech came and installed it.Now we had lost a small bit of data on the old one but most was recovered, however, one of the things that was failing was the disc drive. (who knew?) This I found out when I tried to read some discs that I had done for backup!! There was no help for that and luckily I still had most of the info on the backup harddrive.(whew!)The rest I have been able to recover from various sites.(Thank you Marina from G. Stitches & Emb.Library) Now we are learning a whole new system...so far so good, but we still had server problems, they came the other day and strung some new wire and it is temporary but it seems to be working. Another problem that I had was that for a while it seemed that some of my pattern downloads were not going where they should.I found this out when I opened a file for a cherry design and found about another dozen designs, all unrelated, in it!! I am now in the process of sorting my mega amount of designs and burning extra discs.Oh by the way,the tech mentioned that if you store files on a flash drive, and don't use the flash drive for a long time, that the files can disappear. I have now ordered my tiles for the backsplash and under the cupboards and will have to wait another month for them to come and to get them installed.
Hope this hasn't bored you all..but it is good to be back!
Love & Hugs,
Nadyne

It's right about storing designs for any lengthy time on flash drives. The flash drives can't cope with that kind of job. Even students' homework has disappeared from flash drives. Much better to use an external hard drive. I'm going to try one of the 'cloud' facilities, like Google Drive and see how it goes.

My condolences. I look forward to the pics of your new kitchen. As far as the computer, I have found things in weird places also. Duh! I am not crazy - the machine is!
