It is not an embroidery question, plse tell me more about Burlap. I saw the most beautiful stuff you can do with Burlap, but I can't get it anywhere in shops in the Western Cape in South Africa!

Burlap makes me sneeze and sneeze and sneeze some more! I think it is made of jute, or very crude fibers. It sheds and smells like grains. It can be very crude or more refined like canvas. Kids enjoy holding burlap and tearing it apart while listening to stories being read to them. There is no way I could enjoy making anything out of burlap, unless it was a very crafty project. The fibers could mess up your sewing machine, and fill the bobbin case with lots of fibers. Yucky

Is it the same as Hessian? Thanks for the advice not to use my sewing machine. I saw the most beautiful flowers they make with Burlap - I think there is only hand sewing involved. They did not tell you how you make the flowers, but I think I will fold a strip of Hessian/Burlap in half and just gather the fold side and fold it to make a rose. I saw this on Pinterest! Our fabric place has the most interesting colours in Hessian and this flower I saw was made in winter white - really very nice!

You will definately find it at the garden centres. Try Pick and Pay hardware and gardening department. Please share what you can make with it, so that we, the other cuties, can see what you would like to do with it. Enjoy your day.

Can be used outdoors for seeding, erosion control, as a shade cloth or as a protective wrap
Use to protect plants from freezing rain and ice
Use indoors for crafts, needlework and other decorating projects

It is used in gardening. Maybe check with a plant nursery to see if they have it available. We can even get it in different colors.
