I have a question that perhaps some one can answer for me. I have done several of SoniaShowalter's Lace alpha Angels and I want to know why you use dark green in the underlayer for the leaves when it is not seen in the final stitchout. It seems to me it adds one extra thread change for no apparent reason. Any ideas?

If you have Wilcom Truesizer you can see the animation of the stitchout. I tried it with the Angel A design. I have not sewn many fsl designs but the few I have sew many layers of stitches in order to lock the stitches all together. Also layering the colors gives depth and shading to the design. I would suggest doing a test stitch of the deisn just the way it is if you have not done so already.

Hmmm? Well little bits of the dark green do show through on my stitch simulator and she must have had a good reason for doing it as she also suggests that you use green in the bobbin.
Perhaps you didn't read her text message, if not, here is part of it....
---------------------------------------------------
"""***Use green in the bobbin for colors #2, #3, & #4. Any green color works better than matching exactly. It adds a nice touch in the back.
Yes, leave it in for the berries too!
***Use regular white bobbin thread for all other colors, unless you would like to match each one. The sample was done with the white bobbin thread.

Colors:
1-PF163-Palest Peach- Dress

***Before stitching Color #2, #3, & #4. Switch back to green thread in the bobbin. ( See above)

2-PF277-Dk.Green- Understitching for Holly & Ivy.
3-PF210- Lt. Olive Green- Holly & Ivy
4-PF194-Tomatoe Red- Berries.
5-PF730-Ivory White- Wings and Arms.
6-Metallic Gold- STAR
I recommend King Star metallic thread. Never even have to change the needle
and never a problem."""
---------------------------------------------------
Perhaps you should write to her and ask her, since she is the digitiser you will get a better answer than any of us guessing at it.
She is on Facebook if you use it and I am sure she will answer you.
Hugs n roses, Meganne

Glad you have the design, Meg, at least you can look at it. Yeah, I think asking Sonia would be the best bet. My angels are 'use what colors you want' directions.

The Angel alpha is lovely Marji & they are free right now.
I really don't like discussing other digitiser's work it makes me feel like I am being picky. I think it is always far better to go direct to the source for the best results. :-)

Ok, here is a screen shot from my digitizing software of the Sonia Showalter fur baby angel I have. Obviously you wouldn't do her in these colors, they're just stops for the machine. Choose your own colors, or do it all in white or ecru, then make the letter in your case, the little kitty in mine, a different color. Hope this makes it clearer for you. Hugs, Marji

I don't have these particular alpha Angels, but I do have several of Sonia's other angels. I think the dark green may just be used as a color stop for your machine, in case you wanted to use a different color. I know in the ones I have, the head and wings actually come up as using black on my machine, which obviously you wouldn't do, I don't think. Sometimes on her FSL the different colors aren't used to indicate what color you should use, but just to stop the machine so you CAN use a different color for that part if you want to. Hope I explained that ok for you, if not I'll try again. Hugs, Marji

I know that my machine sometimes shows weird colors to indicate thread changes but my question is really why is a stop and thread change necessary at all in this particuler design.
