Dear Cuties, I need to pick your brains, The Rotary Club I belong to has decided they are going to have a stall at the next local market in (November) and its my job to coordinate the members and suggest what we should make to sell (craft wise). In the past I have only made for myself or family/friends, so for those of you who have done this sort of thing before, what have you found that sells. Any suggestions would be most welcome, hugs Ruth

I attend 2 shows a year. The next one is in October. As stated by others, make items that don't consumer all your time, money, and stabilizer. The cheaper the better. An item costing $ 2.00 is much easier to pick up and go. An item of $ 20.00 you may haul around with you forever.

Good luck hugs,
Bonnie

If you're going to be doing FSL Angels, think of doing them with mylar. They are extra pretty with the mylar peeking out.

Don't embroider on toilet paper, instead, use felt and embroider on it to wrap around toilet paper rolls. This way if someone uses the toilet paper, they still have the pretty design and it can be put on other rolls of toilet paper.

I'd made bookmarks, some of the puppets on Designs by Cuties for the kids and some of the pencil toppers. Also some of the peg covers with magnets on the back side of the pegs.

Anything that is quick and easy to produce. Things that you will be making a profit from rather than highend things that people want, but never purchase (they just gather the idea and do it themself)

I would think being in November, Christmas & Christmas gift things would go well. Personally, I wouldn't get into anything too costly. Even though people might be shopping for presents at that time of year, I don't think they come to craft fairs expecting to spend a lot of money on one item. And consider the bad state of the economy--someone might easily spend a couple of dollars on a bookmark or gift towel, but maybe not $20-30 for a FSL bowl. I'd rather sell 100 $2 things and make money than just one or two $20 things and haul all the rest home, personally. But that's just my opinion, people who do craft fairs may have some different ideas, I just know how I shop. Best of luck, good planning will make for success. Hugs, Marji

Since your sale is in November, you could make things that can be used as Christmas gifts. Items with initials, ornaments, and 1st Christmas items are always popular.

Hi Ruth, What about some guest towels, face cloths, peg bags, aprons, baby clothes, comfort blankets, burp towels, dolls clothes, tea towels. There are so many things. I'm sure the other ladies will also give you lots of ideas. Hugs Yvonne

Considering how popular they've been on here lately, Ruth, maybe you could embroider on some toilet rolls :) I did one myself today for a 60th birthday and with a Rock n Roll design on the opposite side so they can display either. In November people will most likely be shopping for Christmas gifts.

Thanks Marianne, I have never sewn on toilet rolls, you will have to tell me how! I am intrigued, lol

There are some recent ones in projects, from Sigrun, I believe. Depending on the softness of the paper, you may need 2 layers of stab under plus one of the plastic looking Washaway Stabiliser on top. You can trim both neatly to the edge of the roll, leaving them on and wrap in cellophane, clear organza, or netting for display purposes. Take a look at some of the fun designs at Goodies By Gail especially for that.

This is not concerning your question but the national rotary club is in Glenville GA which is very near where I live I drive by it every time I go shopping in Savannah GA. I have considered many times joining but I just haven't. Where is your club located? I never knew they participated in those kind of functions This may change my mind and I will join. I think making the FSL Bowls, Boxes and Baskets or any thing FSl would be good sellers. Is the money going to the club?

Our club is in Mawson lakes south Australia, Rotary does incredible things, and it all generated from grass roots club level. We hold alsorts of funtions and events, many of them to raise money which we donate to local, national and international charities, and lots of them just for fun. If you would like to see the impact the ideas of one individual can make, please google "Polio Plus"and Shelter Box, these are all Rotary projects that have benefited the world. The proceeds from our stall are planned for Autism Assoc SA

If you ever get to south GA USA you might want to visit the one in Glenville GA. I think the rotary club is wonderful.

As I love knitting, I hope you have a knitting stall at your craft market. I always donate somethings from my "brag box" to our local charity. I do machine knitting and hand knit, baby jumpers, scarves, baby blankets, etc.

Some tissue holders as you can use odd bits of material you have for it and if you can buy cheap tea towels they are liked for christmas presents when embroidered , small lavender bags and bookmarks. I also like the small embroidery on soap and wonder if that might sell nicely.
Ladies T-shirts sell quite well, but cost more to buy. I am sure you will get lots more ideas lol and I will be interested to read them too. Good luck

Thankyou for your suggestions, I am going to print them out for when we have our first planning meeting, I will post some of the things we do in projects when we have some, cheers Ruth

I love the zippered tissue holders. The tissues stay a lot neater in those. Course the zippers cost more, but I get mine from Home Sew..however I don't believe they ship to Australia!
