It is a great part for me of my creation when I make an embroidery to choose the good colours : they must suit to the design, to the cloth, to my taste and to the person which will receive the embroidery, and to make a good choice bring to me satisfaction. For each design,I write always the numbers of the colours that I have used and also the remarks on them, it can be useful if I use the desing another time.
I see what colors they use and then see what I have that is close to it or sometimes I want something totally different.
Losie, I usually use the exact colours when I am in a hurry to do something on a quick order. Otherwise I play around with the colour combination until I am happy with what I choose.****
I find that I have a great propensity to buy designs that use colors I like. So I usually have the thread colors already. But I always play with the colors, adjusting them as I want, or changing completely.
The downloaded file often shows up as wierd colors on my computer. If the download contains a color chart or a jpg file, I do refer to it to at least get lights and darks in the right places. If I like the design colors as digitized and there is no picture in the download, I either copy the picture and save with the file, or I keep two screens open on my moniter, side-by-side. One with Embird opened and the other with the website display of the design so that I can refer to the original while making color changes. I have a large monitor.
I may use some simular colors but I use the colors I like mostly
If I am doing an animal or bird design I use the exact colors. I buy a lot of emb library designs and they use Madiera thread but have a conversion chart on their site. if I don't have the correct # in Madiera thread I use an alternate. Any other designs I use what I like for the colors.
Same here, the animals are so realistic, color has to be right. Otherwise, anything goes!
That is one of those things - that you have to be a bit careful of - some color charts have the correct color for the design - but the colors don't transfer with the design correctly - if I can look at the design and see the full picture of it and visualize a color change - then I change it - to suit me and my taste.
I never use the colors given but do choose very similar colors. The numbers don't work for me so I look at the printed picture and I use what I have that will work.

I never stick to a colour chart I always pick my own colours weather for good or bad at least it is my choice. Hugs Joyce
To a certain extent I follow the colour chart,Magenta colour is the one that never seem as intended.
I follow the color chart to a certain extent but I use ALL thread I have in my sewing room so the color names & numbers are never the same. I also like to change up colors to suit my taste
I will change colors, but most of the time, what it looks like is what attracted me to it in the first place! I might change shades of a color, but mostly not major changes.
I file each design with it's original colour chart just to see what the digitizer has used. Sometimes I stick to the original colours but most of the time I use my own choice. I always change the colour in my colour editor first so I know what the finished result will be like. Sarah.
most of the time I choose my own, It depends often what is the background color on wich you go to embroider , what colors fit to this. And sometimes the colors that are in the colorlist don't match and it's better to choose your own, corresponding with the fabric.
Me too! I love standing the spools of thread together to decide what shades to use in a design then making the decision!
I normally would change the colors on my software to see whether I will be satisfied and if so - of I go.
It is what I love doing, Picking what I would like the colour to be.My shade are different anyway.
Hugs Pam.
I use my own colours because I rarely have any of the brand used .I treat machine embroidery as colouring in with thread instead of pencils. The only time I try to use the colours stipulated is ,if it is a realistic design that is true to life in the colours used.
I usually have no choice, because of versions or whatever that the colors are not even close to what the designer wanted. My answer is Always, although sometimes I wished I had looked at the color chart. Live Laugh Download Stitch!
I have a horse design with a blue mane... very odd color choice, so I always do a 3D check with "my editor", I haven't been disappointed yet.
Sometimes I use my own combos but usually try to stay as close to the colour charts as I can. My theory is that the digitizer has a better idea of the finished design than I. Of course it depends on the background colour too which colours to change.
