Alice, I think you could still use the London 2012 without the rings. It would be implied it is the olympics, but I think you would be safe with the copyright. People will be coming to London - and they will see the Ferris Wheel and Big Ben.
What do you think?
I have had a look around and it seems that even the words London 2012 has been copyrighted, it seems that this is a recent thing, the rings were not always copyrighted, which is why I made the mistake of thinking they still were not. I have removed them from my site.
we are so excited :-)
the torch came past the bottom of my road yesterday
here's my youngest two waiting for it to come..
we got there early to secure our spot.. it got very packed when the parade came along.. a coca cola lorry , a samsung lorry, lots of music was like a mini carnival
big hugs form London - Maria xx
I would have been so excited to see the torch come past. The kids look like they are having fun.
akward though the olympic lanes all came into use this week.. so traffic is a nightmare boo hoo.. still gutted i could not get any tickets for any events though
will take the kids to see the marathon or the cycling any of the free events.
These are awesome, Alice! I posted your link on Sewforum. Have you seen the US uniforms? They don't look American at all - very disappointing - what were they thinking? We'll still be cheering them on. How fun for our troubled world.
I think your designs are great. Shame that the copy right issue has come to the fore again. You have obviously put in much work. Well done Alice. Hugs Sarah.
Don't take the copyright issue too lightly, Sarah.
It does not matter how much work Alice has put into it.
She and Veronika can get into a lot of trouble over it.
Unfortunately, the Olympic committee is very tight on their name and logo - eeeeeek. There was an educational creativity competition called Olympics of the Mind, and they were forced to change their name - by the Olympic committee.
I am intending to go and see the Womens road race on Sunday - cycling. Enjoy watching the games
The Olympic rings are the exclusive property of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The Olympic rings are protected around the world in the name of the IOC by trademarks or national legislations and cannot be used without the IOC's prior written consent. You will find the rule about this subject in the Olympic Charter:
This has caused a bit of controversy with one case of knitted olympic rings, done by an elderly lady and put in a shop window display, having to be covered up, for fear of the Olympic 'Police' Jan
That's exactly why I did not post the design I made, the London eye with 4 other rings, a couple of months ago. Even the combo London with 2012 seems to be a matter of copyright, as I was told by mooie who posted several links then.
How neat, especially like the London one, very evocative. When I was in London they hadn't built the wheel yet. Very nice. I like olympics, but often they're on at very odd times. Maybe I'll get lucky & see some favorites. Nice designs, thanks! Hugs, Marji
