Just buy inexpensive mousepads (I bought some nice white ones on e-bay) then hoop some stabilizer and use spray adhesive then stick the mousepad to the sprayed stabalizer. It is best to use a nice red work design... or something not to stitch intensive and stitch away. If you can slow down your embroidery machine do so and just watch it closely.
Here's a photo of a mermaid mousepad I did.
Here's a tutorial from Urban Threads if you's like another way of doing it.

This is not ITH mouse pad but I just made some for myself. I took the foamies sheet you find at craft stores. I spray mounted a piece of fabric to it and smoothed it out with my hand. Next I used modPodge and coated it. Let that dry and did a second coat. Let it dry for a day and had a real nice mouse pad. You can cut the sheet to any size you want. Suzanne
Hi Here is a link to the pattern I bought from fivestarfonts. You can see the size from the pictures. It's about the size of a mug mat. These are stippled.

Afraid that I cannot help you with your question but I would like to welcome you to Cute. The best embroidery site there is. Sarah
I imagine that just about any small quilt or design would work well. You might want to avoid use of red, since the laser kind of freaks out with that. And also, something flat, so that your mouse glides smoothly. Good luck and have fun!
