I need help with a Brother SE270

I have a friend who got this machine for Christmas a few years back and never got it out of the box. Now she wants to start using it and wants me to teach her (I teach computer and embroidery classes to the elderly) I am sure I can figure it out when I see it but my question is can I use designs from cuties on a SD_CF card? does it have to be specially formatted?

Thanks Jo for your links she is going to her dealer Monday and look at the Brother 770 and possibly the Janome 350 Thank you again for your quick response
She is going to keep the 270 as a sewing machine since these other ones she is interested in only embroider.

I think it does a great job as a straight sewing machine, nice and portable. And, it does do a pretty good job on the 4x4 designs, just chugs along.

She's going to need a system to get the designs on a card-which comes with PED Basic-which is what I use with the 270, and still use the card in my Ellegante. It's not an SD card, but a specific one. Weidner has one from another system, which runs cheaper for a blank card, if she has some sort of system already. The Brother link will let you dl a manual for the machine, so you can read through and maybe answer some of her questions as she reads hers.

So only a Brother card will work even with other writing software? I will check out the other site sounds like it might be cheaper for her to just get another machine anyway if she is going to have to buy specialized software. She wants to do larger designs anyhow.

I have Babylocks-which are comparable to the Brother. My friend has Brothers, and we both like our machines. I had the Ellageo -brother Ult type, and now the Ellegante.
