Looking for tips on how to embroider on Chenille and what type of embroidery works best.

I traded computer work for more than 40 yards of Chenille and Damask fabric. The Damask (ten plus yards)is too ornate (I think to add any embroidery) as are some of the others but I would love to make a large tote with embroidery on it using the very plain Chenille with the chevron pattern. I will post all the fabrics. Cuties please tell me what you think. What would YOU do with the fabric?

Your fabric is so beautiful and "earthy". You could use another fabric for totes, and use this for pockets and perhaps a top band, etc. if you wanted to make totes from it. Then you would have a solid area on another fabric to embroider.
I think that most of these would make beautiful ponchos or shawls or jackets.
Picture #1 might take embroidery, but you would have to use some topper WSS and a real bold design so it didn't sink down inside the chenille. Great trade!! Post your results in "Projects" so we can see what you decided to do!!

If the material is enough it would make stunning jackets. I know a lady who make the most wonderful jackets out of it.

Wishing for the ability to edit typos. Sorry to those who try to translate. I meant to type, "I hadn't thought of that."

You can always put the embroidery on another fabric and frame it with the beautiful fabrics. A golden brouwn wouls go with all of them. You certainly can make a tote out of any of these. Use the deco fabrics for panels and straps. Happy Stitchin! Live Laugh Download Stitch!

I love this idea! I have done it before when someone wanted very busy floral fabric to be monogramed in a way that it would be easy to see. I just didn't think about using it here. Thank you for your help.

the third fabric: I would out line some of the leaves in some tiny beads in a sorta of clear color and maybe red (if that is the color hard to tell for sure in the photo)

I like the idea of clear beads. The reds (in any of the fabrics) may be hard to match but clear would work well. Thank you.

Thank you. Now if I can just decide what to do with my "payment"
I like it when being a computer geek pays off in fabric.

The second fabric you could enhance for a bag with some Hand embroidery with gold thread and shiney beads. Hugs Joyce

Thank you Carolyn. Bring your sewing machine and come make something wonderful with my new (to me) fabric. You always have such great ideas! Plus, I live in the states...you could shop for thread and embroidery hoops! lol

What lovely material - I would use a WSS topping and I think the only one of all of these fabric's that I would want to stitch anything on - would be the frist only - the rest are too lovely as they are.

Thank you. They are all home decor fabrics. I am afraid even the first one may prove to be too difficult. There is some stretch to the fabric (one way) it will be challenging for me!

I don't know the answer. I would think that you could embroider on the chenille the same way as on bath towels. Would be interesting to read what others have to say. Your material is gorgeous. Lucky gal.
