Yes, Dolly, exactly, Water Soluble Stabilizer is the generic description, all the others are 'brand names' for this product or something like it.

Badgemaster is a very heavy Film type of water Soluble stabilizer usually used for FSL embroidery.
Badgemaster is the Brand Name of it.

There are other heavy Film types of Water Soluble stabilzer such as Ultra Solvy.

Vilene water soluble stabilizer is a Brand name and is a Fibrous type of water soluble(looks like a very light weight tear away stabilizer).

There are many other Brand names for Fibrous Water Soluble stabilizers such as Aqua Magic, Washaway, H2O Gone,Floriani has one, Sulky has a fibrous type also. They are all similar.
And all can be used as a stabilizer for stitching FSL desigs.

Remember there are also Water Soluble Toppers which are usually a light weight Film type of water soluble such as light weight Solvy.
These are for using on top of napped fabric such as towels so the embroidery stitches don't sink into the nap.
These can not be used for embroiderying Free Standing Lace designs as they are not a stabilizer but are a Topper.

WSS is water soluble stabilizer
Vilene is a brand name of WSS
Badgemaster is a VERY dense WSS and is a brand name.
Ebay has a lot of brands, I use World Wiedener products as they have most all stabilizers.
Hope this helps!

Hugs, Bonnie

I think it would be "Water Solulable Stabilizer" which is what WSS stands for.

I get amy wash away at Fabricland, when they have their 50% off sale. It sold by the meter here in Canada, you can get it a Jo-anne's too. I just ask for it as wash away and I get the woven stuff that's strong enough for FSL work.

That's how I buy mine, too. Besides, by buying it by the meter I have it in any size I need...even my largest hoops! Because I don't live in a town that has a Fabricland, I make sure I utilize the sale price and usually buy 10 meters at a time!!

Not sure I know of a generic name for it. I thought we usually called WSS either Vylene style washaway/water soluble stabiliser (WSS) or plastic style washaway. You don't mean Solvy, do you -or one of the brand names?

Thanks Grey, but Solvy is also a brand name, just curious for a generic name.
