Hi,
My starching helps so much to save on fabric.
I always design a basting square and center the design, use that to guide for the final cutting.
I alter the size of many designs so they fill the squared basting size, either bigger or smaller.
Happy Quilting!
Thank you ladies. Flowers given to all of you. If will do more looking at the blocks to see if I can find out the true size of the designs. Thank you.
I would cut mine so I would have at least 1 1/2 inches on top and bottom of my designs...starting with the largest of the set...the rest would be cut the same size as that block....I like at least 1 in or more on my blocks from the biggest point of my design to the seam of my blocks
I like a bit of background around my designs so I would go with an 10" block that would cut down to 9 - 9 1/4 or maybe smaller. That is for a true 57 design. If smaller - go smaller, however remember you want to have a little extra for staightening the block. Then figure how many blocks with sashing to get to the size quilt you want. I think I may figure backwards. Living Laughing Downloading and Stitching
That depends on how long and how wide you want your quilt. Take the width and divide how many block you want to make across (say 4 blocks 2 plain and 2 pattern. so take the width divided by 4 and that will give you size of block. Now if you want a sashing in between you will have to take that away from the total block. Same for length. I always make my block about 8 inches with a 1 1/2 to 2 inch sash.
