I have often read the requests for help from others, now I wonder if someone would have a suggestion for me on how to make a spider. My daughter wants a spider made of fabric, for her daughter to carry as Little Miss Muffet for Halloween. I suggested a styro ball with pipe cleaner legs and she said she wants something that will not be fragile and she wants it to be cute. I have tried the outline of the turtle pin cushion as well as the circle blob and these just don't seem to work. I have not seen a pattern in the stores either. It can not be too big as the little girl carrying it hanging from some elastic so it will bob up and down, is not even two years old yet. thank you for any ideas.

I've found 2 embroidery designs you might like (both ITH but not free) one from Embroidery Outlet and one from Embroidery Collectables (not sure if the legs are pipe cleaners here, but I'd use ribbon if they are since the toy will be for a little girl). Two links follow :) xXx

I also have made these...I used a large black pom pom but you could use material and make like a ball. Used eyes that were hot glued on and also glued on pipe cleaners for legs. I used elestic string about 2 ft long (whatever length you want) and used a 14 to 18 inch dowel and tied it onto it. (this makes it jump) and also a great cat toy.

You could try this I made one for my granddaughter for fancy dress little miss muffet, I made a medium size black cushion and filled it with fibre fill then I bought some really black tights and filled them and then stitched them to the body part and I put funny eyes on the cushion and stitched a mouth, I also made a strap so she could hang it on her wrist glad to say with my hard work she came second

When you mentioned making a spider for halloween,I thought of the patchwork puzzle ball by Jinney Beyer. Then attach legs, by making tubes of black fabric, Where the legs are to bent take a few stitches making the leg bend. Attach the legs by hand where needed. The eyes I would applique White Ovals. There would be no harm as button would not be used. This is a site for the tutorial on making the ball.

How about adding some legs to the blob? Stitch on black fleece with one of Katulle's faces.

Add a loop of elastic to make it bouncy!

I started with the idea of the blob but it seems too small. sure sounded the easiest. thanks for the suggestion, I am going to try seveal of these. I should have asked sooner, this has been really helpful.

I love making these kinds of things! I'd use black satin circles. I'd put some cute eyes on them, like some of the googly ones we have in Designs by Cuties, I'd stick 8 black pipe cleaner legs out. Bend up the ends so they don't scratch, and bend them at the knee. Of course hang it with black elastic with a wrist loop.
Sew the circles right side together, stuff them tightly with the legs sticking out. I wouldn't worry about the head, thorax - just one body part. That's what I'd do :-) Hope that helps

Have you thought of making a pompom? You could use pipecleaners as legs. You can buu those long ones in lovely colours! Than some stick on googly eyes. Away you go!

I would cut 2 oval shape pieces of fabric and take one and line up 4 pieces of black ribbon on each side for leggs then place other piece of oval on top stitch around leave a opening for turning ,flip it inside out stuff it and hand stitch hole opening.
