I never thought of doing a seat cover, I'm interested in how it turns out and how you made it. Thanks :)
my son wanted a design for his show truck and his friend wanted a design on his also. They helped watch the machine and had to hold the seat cover weight up so my machine was free to move. good luck with yours
I've been contemplating making a cover for my husband's truck bucket seat. Currently he's using a bath towel. What are the thoughts on terry?
Make the back & seat seperate. if the fabric you use slides around buy the rubbery (non slip) shelf liner & attach underneath.
You might check out quilted bedspreads, which should be large enough to cover the seat, be tucked in between top and bottom, and either sew elastic in the corners to help hold it on, or attach from place to place on the back of the seat. That should be thin enough to embroider on, and yet cover the whole thing.
That is a good idea. Thanks. What size would you recommend? Do you think for a double bed would be big enough - or too big?
You'd have to measure the seat.Across the front, sides, and some to pull to the back, along with some to tuck between the top and bottom seats. Rather go too large than small. If you have extra, can make seat belt covers!
I've done several for my husband through the years. The vinyl/naugahide type fabric are difficult as it has little give. I would use a sturdy type of fabric that has just a slight give. That way you can achieve a snug fit. I used alot of elastic and velcro.
Did you have a pattern, or did you do just by measurement? Did you make it in two pieces )one for the seat and one for the back) or did you do it all as one piece?
Two separate pieces, so that sitting on the seat doesn't drag the back down, too. The seat sinks, if it's only one piece the back will constantly be coming off, it's irritating to adjust always.
Well, years ago I made a seatcover for a full size truck, because the original one was all torn. I just took the old one off and used it for a pattern. But this was just a plain bench seat, no fancy headrests or anything, back in the 70's. I made it out of what we called "naugahide" back then, and it turned out just great. I don't see why you couldn't embroider on it before you sewed it together. Just FYI, though, this sounds like a working truck, those pretty threads are going to get pretty dirty, and this isn't something you're going to wash. Good luck with this, let us know how it goes. Hugs, Marji
His truck is a solid bench seat. The truck is not fancy, but the seats and covers are in very good condition. He would like to keep it that way. He has 2 young sons and he is afraid they will get it really messed up. He would like to be able to take them out and wash them.
them out and wash them. I know it wouldn't last near as long, but what about using fleece that already have horses on it? As far as embroidery if I have to do that I would not use my good maderia thread.
Are you putting a cover over leather or fabric? Fleece will slide like crazy on leather. If it's going over fabric, fleece would be ok, I think, but it will shift around because it's such a soft fabric. I think that's why they usually use those heavy woven "horse blanket" looking covers.
woven "horse blanket" type covers. Do you have an uhpolstry fabric outlet anywhere near you? I do, I get heavy fabric for $6, wash it so it shrinks, then sew away. I'll give it some thought, I don't think he'd be happy with the fleece because it would squiggle around so much.
would squiggle around so much. Pants would stick to it, but it wouldn't stick to the seat, he'd be moving and adjusting it all the time.
I hadn't thought of the shifting. It is on cloth seats. This is why I go to you all when I have questions. You think of things that don't ever occur to me. Thanks so much.
don't know if you are in the states or not but have you looked at Amazon.com or ebay? Both have seat covers with horses.
I have looked on ebay & amazon, but they show they are for small trucks and he has a large F350 to pull the horse trailer. :) Thanks anyway.
