For Marji or any Cutie wanting a look see and link about quilt,go to my post in Community.I hope that is where you are suppose to post it-T
That's exactly the right place to put the link, Toogie, and thanks so much!
Wow, love your pictures and with that gotta say love each lol. Are you making just one quilt? Guess if I gotta pick one the red inserts over camo. I love the back as you laid it out also. You are doing great!
Thanks for everything and yes, just 1 quilt, but it will probally be a queen size.-T
I think this is a wonderful idea, it's something I'd be willing to try. To answer your question about the bobbin thread, I think I would probably use the blue jean color on the back, since some of your squares will be the camo, and you're not going to use the red on the camo, are you? Also, if the sewing lines on the back didn't turn out just perfectly aligned, they wouldn't be so obvious if they were the blue jean blue color. This is a terrific idea, where did you get the pattern? How big are your circles and squares? I love the idea that it's quilt-as-you-go. And it's a use for old jeans, there's really a lot of bonuses to this pattern! Good job, hugs, Marji
Hi Marji, I thought too if I used blue on the bobbin, it could be flipped over and could accesorize with something other than red.Maybe he could use the bluejean side up and do camo accesories, pillows, etc now ,then when he marries he can flip it to the red side up.haha I have 6 grandsons and I am so tired of camo.I won't be using the camo squares with the red squares . It will have to be one or the other. And no I won't use red thread on the camo, not at all, if I have to do camo sqs.The idea came from a post someone gave me, I'll try to look it up.However, I took a lid from an ice cream 5 qt bucket.I trimmed it into my circle at the indention inside the lid. It came out to be 7 3/4" across the middle of the circle. I then marked a square (mine is 5 1/2") inside the circle. When you put the circles r-s-t you have to match the lines perfectly, and st on the line.I hope this helps you.I am sure you can use other sizes, since the lady never gave any measurements, just so your sq is true and goes just inside the circle evenly.-Toogie
red side ,haha I will NOT be using camo and red sqs together, it will be 1 or the other. And NO, if I do all camo they won't be stitched with red thread.I got the idea in a post I recieved, I will try to recover and get back to you. However,
My circle is 7 3/4" and I draw a 5 1/2" sq inside the circle.I used a plastic lid from a 5quart ice cream bucket for my template, altho I trimmed it down at an indention on the lid and this was how I got the 7 3/4". I also cut the 5 1/2" square out of another lid for my sq template. If you were to use cardboard for the templates, the edges would start messing up, the plastic won't.I hope this helps you-Toogie
another plastic lid.If you use cardboard it will start messing up around the edges, and the plastic for the templates won't.You can do any size circle, but your sq has to be true
& points of sq fit just inside the circle edge. The lady didn't give any sizes, but these are mine I am using.Hope this helps you.If I can assist you further, just ask, I look and sew,haha-Toogie
Thanks so much, Toogie, and thanks for the link you gave in the forum, it's super!
I have done a quilt like this. I hd 2 layers of fabric with batting in between. Mine had 25 circles total. I couldn't do more than that cause I got too bored with it. I will take a picture of mine and post it so you can see it. Good luck with yours, Susa
I will end up with 270, equaling 30 Big blks. That is why I wanted to sew different sqs of red fabric, so I wouldn"t get bored.
well I do a bit of quilting & this in my opinion is terrific with the splash of reds & if I'm not mistaken it is called a Cathderal Windows Cheater Quilt & Cheaters is not an insult it just refers to doing it all at once as opposed to overall sandwich quilting! Looks like you have thought this out really well for a beginner WAY TO GO! Hugs Loralye
The lady that did the one I saw called it a Windowpane Quilt. The different reds are my personal preference, but I wanted to hear what the majority of Cuties said.-T
It all looks great - now to wait to see the end result!
Thank you and I will post the end, but it may be some time before we see it.haha-T
What a great and huge project! Wow! Good for you!So fun to see all the photos. Thanks.
OK Since you are taking votes...:)I'm trying to picture it all finished...
I like the idea of red and blue for the top/front. Then flip it over and have only blue on the back...It would give the whole room a different feeling on different days. AND about the red inserts...I lived around so many checked table cloths, that I like the change of having a variety of red fabrics. It's just great! It will be so loved.
Trying again #8 different sqs of red I also had a smaller red check #9 back of quilt, unfinished but laid some out for you to see Answer ? about the bobbin thread
#5 sample #6 sample back, answer my ? at top #7 is camo, just laid inside of sq
I like the red inserts better than the camo, look like the cowboy's red hanky tucked into his jeans pocket, much better contrast.
Cut off/pics and inst.-#6 is the backing,do you like the red bobbin or should I use a blue shade on the denim side? #7 I wanted to do different sqs of red fabric, but Caleb likes all the big red checks, what do you Cuties like? #8his 1st choice was camo in all the sqs, I was so down-hearted about camo. to me it doesn't 'PoP' like the red. Also I thought it would make a good top for the bed, and since I may not get it done till he marriesI don't believe his wife would use it on their bed as readily.
It is not an ITH project, not even emb YET. I do hope to emb a sq w/info or sentiment on it for Caleb,my grandson. It is regular sewing, so far. Please answer ?s. Some of these are his old jeans. Thanks for the encouragement,Carolyn-T
