thanks everyone. I thought the 12 or 14 would be o.k. Needed a bit of reassurance I think as I'm having a bit of grief with this order.
Like the others said, I agree 14 would be fine for embroidery on denim, you're not going through a lot of heavy seams. I have the 300E as well, isn't she just a great machine? Hugs, Marji
Good advice all round. I only use denim needles no 12 or 14. Works fine for me.
I don't have a Janome embroidery machine, but my sewing machine is a Janome. I use blue tips for denim, which is what I made all my machine covers out of, and had no problem sewing through several folded layers to hem the covers. In fact I use blue tips for everything because it was only recently I found out there are also red tips lol so I don't have any. My blue tips are in an orange Janome packet with the number 11 on the front - is this the size as well? lol who knew? I use them for everything. (I only ever use Top Stitch needles in my Brother embroidery machine too.) hth :) xXx
This is a good site to bookmark for the needle selection guide -which says an 11 is fine for denim, by the way. I buy my needles from this seller in the US. Even with postage they're way cheaper than I can get here.
I'm currently embroidering on dog collar webbing with a size 16, Irene and your denim won't be anywhere near that tough so should be fine. you may want to also slow the speed down a tad.
I do well with a universal needle. But experiment because all machines have their ideosynracies.
I usually use the blue tip (Scmeltz), which is for jeans, size 16. Try the 14 and see how it goes - you should be able to tell without doing a whole stitchout. Good luck.
